SUMMARY:FREE WATERCOLOR CLASSES FOR ADULTS
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a series of free watercolor classes for adults in the Studio at the Gmeiner. All classes will be led by Kathy Pilling-Whitney of Tioga\, who has many years of teaching experience and is an accomplished watercolor painter. There will be two beginner sessions in June\, and then a series of three classes in July for those who want to learn more advanced techniques. The classes are free\, but students must provide their own materials. For these classes\, students will need to purchase a set of watercolor paints (tubes or pans – not opaque)\, at least six sheets of 140 pound watercolor paper (8×10”\, 9×12” or 11×14”)\, a watercolor palette to mix colors\, and a set of watercolor (NOT acrylic) brushes. \nThe beginner class will be offered on two dates – Sunday\, June 4th and Sunday\, June 25th from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for one session or the other by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This class is intended for students who have little to no experience with watercolor painting and is limited to 12 students per session. The beginner class will be an exploration of the properties of transparent watercolor so that students can become familiar with the medium and increase their confidence in using it. The two-hour class will include discussion of the following: masking white vs. leaving white vs. using tape\, transparent vs. opaque watercolor\, and the use of watercolor markers and watercolor pencils. Students will also explore fluid (wet-in-wet)\, wet-on-dry\, and drybrush techniques. Demonstrations and coaching will be done for both still life and abstract designs. Students should leave the class with at least one painting\, increased skills and confidence in using watercolors\, and perhaps a desire to continue developing their skills in the advanced series of classes. \nThe advanced classes will be held on July 9th\, 16th\, and 23rd from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for all three sessions by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This series of classes is intended to greatly develop the students’ ability to use watercolors\, and is open to students who took the beginner class or who have previous experience with watercolors. It is limited to 12 participants. The first class will start with a review of basic techniques\, and then participants will practice various watercolor techniques over the course of the three days using a variety of subject matter. Students will paint a mostly white still life creating depth and shadows without using black. They will paint a floral design and learn about color glazing with watercolors\, and they will complete an abstract design. \nThe Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. Students should park on Main Street in front of the library.

SUMMARY:History of the Mansfield Dairymen’s League plant
DESCRIPTION:The Mansfield History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us in partnership with First Citizens Community Bank\, will host a special presentation on the history of the Mansfield Dairymen’s League plant in conjunction with June’s Dairy Month celebration.\n\n\nThe presentation will take place on Sunday June 25\, at the Museum of Us at 61 North Main Street in Mansfield. Free ice cream sundaes will be served at the conclusion of the presentation. The free event is sponsored by First Citizens Community Bank.\n\n\nThe special presentation will feature a history of the Dairymen’s League plant in Mansfield by Tice. Long-time Tioga County Commissioner and dairy farmer Erick Coolidge will be honored to speak of the importance of the dairy industry in Tioga County.\n\n\nThe Borough of Mansfield will also present the History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us with the original Dairymen’s League signage which hung on the outside wall of the testing room prior to the borough purchasing the building for use as the borough garage. Mansfield Mayor Kathy Barrett will present a proclamation recognizing importance of the Dairyman’s League in Mansfield’s history.\n\n\nThe Mansfield Branch of Dairymen's League Inc. was organized in the fall and winter of 1916-1917. The membership grew until Dec. 31st\, 1920 when there were 220 farmers who had\njoined the organization of the Mansfield Local.\n\n\nOct. 1\, 1920 notices were posted on the plants of the Mansfield Dairy Co.\, which then processed most of the local milk\, that they would close. This put the patrons of the plants in a position where it was necessary to find an alternative processor. A committee was appointed to interview Mr. W.D. Rose\, President of the Mansfield Dairy\, regarding processing the League patrons’ milk. It was agreed that his company take the milk and manufacture it at the expense\nof the patrons and pay the balance to them. This was for three months\, October\, November\, and December of 1920.\n\n\nWhile this was being done the Dairymen’s League members raised the money to either build plants or buy the ones owned by the Mansfield Dairy Co.\, and the deal was closed Sunday\, January 1st\, 1921. The pooling system known as the Mansfield chapter of the Dairymen’s League Cooperative Association came into being with plants in Mansfield\, Seeley Creek\, Jobs Corners\, Roseville and Mainesburg.\n\n\nIn 1969\, the Dairymen’s League Cooperative Association changed its name to the more recognizable Dairylea after its famous brand of milk.\n\n\nThe original Mansfield Condensary\, located behind the current Mansfield Plaza\, was built in October 1905 by W. D. Rose of the Mansfield Dairy Company and dismantled in 1951. The new\nmodern shipping plant was built and operated until closing October 1st\, 1961. It currently serves as the Mansfield Borough garage. The plants consisted of Mansfield\, Seeley Creek\, Jobs Corners\, Roseville and Mainesburg.\n\n\nThe History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us is located at 61 North Main Street in Mansfield\, PA.
