SUMMARY:BARK PEELERS’ FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:The annual Bark Peelers’ Festival\, Honoring Pennsylvania’s Lumbering Heritage. will be held on Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2\, 2023.  This year marks the 50th anniversary of the festival\, which started in 1973.  Bark Peelers’ treats thousands of visitors (3000 + in 2022) to lively special events\, contests\, and demonstrations that celebrate “woodhick” skills.  Unique food and craft vendors provide guests with ample shopping and culinary opportunities.  There is live music throughout the weekend\, crafts and games at the kid’s corner\, operating demonstrations of our steam-powered circular sawmill and birch still\, blacksmithing\, chainsaw carving\, camp cooking\, and door prizes.  Visitors are encouraged to compete in the greased pole\, log rolling\, crosscut saw\, and birling competitions to earn the title “Grand Champion Bark Peeler” and the associated cash prizes.  Admission costs $10 per-day for adults and $3 per-day for youth ages 3 to 11.  A 2-day pass is available for $18.00/person.

DESCRIPTION:Coming to a Night Sky Program\, but arriving early? Join park staff for a family friendly Nature at Night Program! \nThese programs feature fascinating creatures that enjoy the night as much as we do at Cherry Springs. Possible topics include: fireflies\, owls bats\, black bears and more! \nIf you arrive early you can bring a picnic! Picnic tables and charcoal grills are on site next to the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. \nRegistration is NOT required for the Nature at Night programs. \n— \nIf you have questions or would like to know when a specific topic or animal will be featured during a Nature at Night program\, email cherryspringsee@pa.gov  or call the park office at 814-435-1037. \nPark programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the gravel lot and follow the walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Since seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket. \nWe ask that park visitors please leave their pets at home. DESCRIPTION:Explore the diverse landscape of our moon\, explore highlands\, volcanic plains\, and moon mission landing sites. Join park staff in viewing lunar natural afeatures and discovering where moon landings took place among them. \nUnder the guidance of our volunteers and staff\, embark on an amazing telescope tour of the moon’s surface. \nNo pre-registration required. Telescopes available on a first-come\, first-serve basis for the time listed. Availability is subject to staff/volunteer availability\, weather conditions\, and crowd size limitations. \nPark Programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the gravel lot and follow the walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Since seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket \nAll programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder. \nTelescopes will not be available in the event of significant cloud-cover. \nWhile you may still observe on your own at the park without attending a program\, all visitors should arrive before dark. \nWe ask that visitors to the Night Sky programs to please leave their pets at home. Dim lighting\, large crowds and sensitive equipment do not create a pet-friendly environment. \nCheck the Clear Sky Chart or Astrospheric for 48-hour forecasts of cloud cover and viewing conditions.
