SUMMARY:"Rustic Beauty" Exhibition by Jon Bond
DESCRIPTION:Renowned Berks County artist Jon Bond will present his “Rustic Beauty” exhibition at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro\, PA\, July 8 – 30. The art exhibit in the main gallery will be open daily Tuesday through Sunday\, 12 – 6pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist and learn the stories behind the paintings during a reception on Saturday\, July 8\, 2-4pm. A free Smartphone audio tour will also be available to gallery visitors. \n“Rustic Beauty” will feature more than 35 original works including egg tempera\, oil\, watercolor\, and ink drawings. Finished works\, along with studies and derivative compositions\, capture the harsh rustic beauty of the northern Berks County landscape that surrounds Jon’s art studio. The art is a nod to the strong Pennsylvania German heritage of the area and conveys a silent sense of place where inanimate objects become neighbors\, farmers\, family\, and friends. \nMany items will be displayed for purchase. Unique gifts featuring reproductions of Jon’s art include zippered carryalls\, puzzles\, prints\, postcards\, greeting cards\, and more.

SUMMARY:An Eagle’s Eye View: Tioga County from Above Atrium exhibit by Wade Spencer
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce the Atrium exhibit for July\, “An Eagle’s Eye View: Tioga County from Above” by local photographer Wade Spencer. The exhibit will feature aerial landscape photos printed on metal\, which gives them a three-dimensional quality. This exhibit will open on Saturday\, July 8th with a reception from 2-4PM. Wade and the Main Gallery artist\, Jonathan Bond\, will talk about their art work at 3PM. Light refreshments will be provided by members of Art’s Friends. The reception is free and open to the public. \nA Tioga county native\, Wade Spencer is a Wellsboro-based photographer and videographer who enjoys capturing creative content in our beautiful region. While studying communication at Mansfield University in 1997\, Wade developed a parallel interest in photography\, specifically creating landscape and nature scenes on 35mm slide film. He has eagerly embraced digital technology as it developed. Wade continued his photographic journey and today utilizes the modern capabilities of drones and action cameras as well as traditional cameras. Wade states\, “I’ve always been captivated by both beautiful outdoor photography and flying. When it became possible to capture a literal birds eye view\, I knew I needed to invest in the equipment\, learn the regulations\, and develop that skill. Top-down photos are an angle that is rarely seen\, but show so much.”  Outside of content creation\, Wade enjoys hiking\, biking\, kayaking\, and spending time in nature. You can see more photographs by Wade on Instagram at: wade_spencer \nThis display is appropriate for all ages\, and there will be a scavenger hunt activity for children. The Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. We are open from 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday and admission to the gallery is always free.

SUMMARY:FREE SUMMER ART CAMP FOR KIDS
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to announce that this summer’s artist-in-residence\, Stacy Kelley\, will be offering two free art camps for children the week of July 10th through the 14th! Stacy will focus her lessons on “Learning to See Like an Artist” for students in grades 6-12. We will offer two sessions per day. The morning session (10AM -12PM) will be for children ages 10-13 and the afternoon session (1PM – 3PM) will be for students ages 14-17. Registration is free and limited to 15 students per session. Students must be able to attend all five days in a row. To sign up for these classes\, please contact Carrie Heath\, the director of the Gmeiner\, at 570-724-1917 or director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org. \nDuring the five-day residency\, Stacy will teach students how to use tools including a viewfinder\, color wheel\, and possibly a value scale. The classes will be focused on developing greater mastery in drawing still lives. Stacy will teach them techniques such as properly holding a pencil\, naming an angle\, and finding the golden section. Students will use these tools and techniques to learn to look at the world around them with an artist’s eyes. Students will have the opportunity to evaluate and display their work. \nStacy Kelley is a newly rostered teaching artist with the Northern Tier Partners for the Arts. She recently had her first solo art exhibit at the Lycoming Arts Gallery in Williamsport. Rewarding art experiences all throughout her school years eventually led Stacy to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Her love of drawing\, and interests in communication\, design\, and psychology have inspired her through the years. Stacy says\, “I believe in paying attention to uncelebrated\, but telling moments that highlight character and qualities that might otherwise go unnoticed. Mining out these nuances provides the inspiration for my work. I strive to communicate essence through gesture\, a deliberate arrangement of elements\, or a specific point of view. The representational aesthetic of my work leans into the philosophies of Romanticism and Impressionism. To me\, art is an indispensable way to focus\, consider\, communicate\, reflect\, explore\, and triumph.” \n“This project was made possible through the AIE Partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts\, a state agency\, and the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency. The PCA Arts in Education Partner in this region is Northern Tier Partners for the Arts (NTP4Arts). NTP4Arts supports Arts in Education Residency programs in Bradford\, Columbia\, Lycoming\, Sullivan\, and Tioga counties. NTP4Arts’ Arts in Education Residency Program strives to provide intensive on-going arts experiences that affirm the creative potential of each person\, enhance technical knowledge and ability\, inspire creativity\, stimulate the expression of personal vision\, and applaud excellence.” This art camp is also free for participants due to the funds raised by Art’s Friends benefit auction held on April 29th.
