SUMMARY:We Did It Our Way Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce the Wellsboro Art Club’s annual exhibit. The club member’s “We Did It Our Way” exhibit which emphasizes the members individuality will be on display in the Main Gallery from October 7 – October 29.  The exhibit will open with a free reception for the public on Saturday\, October 7th  from 2-4PM with refreshments provided by the art club members\, and a little entertainment for guests as well. Wellsboro Art Club members work in a wide variety of mediums\, including watercolors\, acrylics\, glass\, fiber\, jewelry\, sculpture\, ceramics\, and mixed media. This incredibly creative group never fails to please with their show. \nThe Wellsboro Art Club first formed in 1948 with a group of local painters who wanted to work and learn together. Over the years\, the group expanded to include crafts as well as fine arts. The Wellsboro Art Club meets formally at 10 AM on the first Thursday of each month in the Studio at the Gmeiner. They have informal studio time the 2nd\, 3rd\, and 4th Thursday of each month from 10AM – noon. \nWhen the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center first opened in 1969\, members of the Wellsboro Art Club served as “hostesses” (now called docents) during public showings of Mr. Gmeiner’s works\, and began to arrange for exhibits of other local artists and area children. Since the art club has long had such a close association with our founder\, it only made sense to also display some of Arthur Gmeiner’s works during the month of October in the Atrium gallery. The focus of this exhibit will be on “He Did It His Way” and will focus on Mr. Gmeiner’s individuality. Some of his quirkier artworks and those that show his sense of humor will be displayed. \nThe Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. We are open from 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday and admission to the gallery is always free. This display is appropriate for all ages\, and there will be a scavenger hunt activity for children.

SUMMARY:5k Run Past Cancer
DESCRIPTION:You have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others here in Tioga County. On Saturday\, October 28th\, there is a fun filled community event planned in Mansfield. This event\, sponsored by the American Cancer Society with Tioga Running Club\, is an opportunity to raise money and help cancer patients in Tioga County. Checks are made out to American Cancer Society.\nOctober 28th to help other local families who are currently struggling with cancer.\nTo get involved join us at Smythe Park in Mansfield on October 28th\, as we run and walk past cancer. Choose the activity level that is right for you and your family. There is a 1 mile walk/run event and a 5K run event. Registration will be open right up to race time\, or you can pick up a registration form today. Registration forms for the 5K and the 1 mile fun walk/run can be picked up at Wild Asaph Outfitters at 71 Main Street\, in Wellsboro or Oswald Cycle Works at 7 North Main Street\, in Mansfield.\nChecking-in for the events begins at 8:30AM\, on October 29th\, at Smythe Park.\nThe registration day of fee for the 1 mile walk run is $15 with a maximum fee of $30 for immediate family members. The cost for the 5K run is $25. All of the money raised at this event will go to eradicating cancer and helping patients in Tioga County.\nMany community members have donated gifts to make this event extra special. Everyone who participates in either of the walk/run events will receive a free small ice cream from Wellsboro Creamery. Top runners in the 5K event will win medals. Also remember\, all participants are encouraged to ramp up the fun by wearing costumes. The top costume participants will be awarded prizes. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed\, Funniest\, Scariest\, Most Unusual\, Cutest\, Best Fictional Character\, Best Group and Coolest Celebrity.\nWe can help eradicating cancer and help local families! Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy this healthy\, fun community event that will help the fight against cancer. DESCRIPTION:Little Hickory Productions is partnering with the Deane Center on a series of benefit concerts to bring the best of American Roots Music to Wellsboro\, Pennsylvania. \nThese concerts will directly benefit the music scholarships established in Sue’s name at the Rock L. Butler Middle School\, Wellsboro Area High School\, and Mansfield University. \nWe are excited that Verlon Thompson is joining us again at the Deane Center on Saturday\, October 28th to benefit the Sue Cunningham Music Scholarships! Verlon\, a multi-Grammy nominee\, is coming up from Nashville to help us honor Sue\, his close friend and musical partner. \nMolly Cary and Dan Shipe will open for Verlon to make this evening even more unique. Dan and Sue played together for many years in The Hickory Project and The Sue Cunningham Band and were the best of friends. Dan and Molly have been thrilling audiences with their beautiful harmonies\, and we are so happy to have them participate in this magical event. \nVIP Tickets are $50 and include a private reception sponsored by Conspiracy Coffee Co. and Bakery starting at 6 p.m. with an intimate performance and a meet and greet with Verlon before his show! Each VIP ticket will include a signed 8×10 photo of Verlon and a CD of Verlon and Sue. \nGeneral Admission tickets are $25 and will be available through the Deane Center for the Performing Arts. SUMMARY:Night Sky Tour - Intro to the Fall Sky
DESCRIPTION:Experience the wonder of the night sky at Cherry Springs State Park through a laser-guided tour conducted by park staff. \nExplore the constellations of Ursa Major (Big Bear\, containing the Big Dipper)\, Perseus\, and Andromeda. Listen as we recount the legends and myths surrounding these mysterious patterns in the sky. Learn about park history\, current use\, and the importance of dark night skies. Learn about park history\, current use\, and the importance of dark night skies. \nRegistration encouraged\, but not required. Should we need to cancel or modify a program due to weather\, etc.\, we will email all registered participants. Optional registration will open 45 days before the program. \n—- \nCold weather note: Program will be cancelled if forecasted windchill is below 25°F\, or if rain or snow is forecast. \n—- \nWhile you may still observe on your own at the park without attending a program\, all visitors should arrive before dark. \nPrograms occur at Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the gravel lot and follow the walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Since seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket. \nWe ask that park visitors please leave their pets at home. Dim lighting\, large crowds and sensitive equipment do not create a pet-friendly environment. \nAll programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder. \nCheck the Clear Sky Chart or Astrospheric for 48-hour forecasts of cloud cover and viewing conditions.
