SUMMARY:Explorer 1 (Blue Run Rocks)
DESCRIPTION:Explorer Camp is a great opportunity for campers who love the outdoors and like to rough it some. Explorer camp is a little more relaxed then main camp\, but still upholds the same Christ-centered programming. Explorer campers sleep outdoors\, prepare their meals over an open fire and learn many outdoor living skills. Although they still participate in ALL of camps activities\, they also spend 1-2 nights on an off-site trip. (Backpacking\, hiking\, rock climbing or canoeing). \n\n\nExplorer 1 will be taking a one-night\, off-site trip to Blue Run Rocks. This is a beautiful location not far from camp where campers will have the opportunity to try their hand at rock climbing. The round trip hike to Blue Run and back is around three miles\, so this is a perfect option for campers who want to try out backpacking. \n\n\nRequired Deposit: $25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure registration and discounts. \nTotal Payment: PYC requests that the total cost of camp be paid before arrival to help speed up the check-in process. \nFor further information or to register\, visit https://www.pennyork.com/summercampinfo/explorer-1-(blue-run-rocks)

SUMMARY:2024 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to announce that Stacy Kelley will be returning for this summer’s artist-in-residency\, but will be offering classes for adults this time. “Learning to See Like an Artist: Building Your Visual Language Toolbox” is for adults who would like to improve their drawing skills. Accurate drawing skills are a core essential to communicating visually. For this 5-day residency students will focus on observing from life and learn how to transfer what they see in 3 dimensions to a 2-dimensional surface. They will be exposed to techniques employed by old master artists to create successful representational drawings. \nClasses will be held on 5 consecutive Wednesdays\, starting June 26 through July 24 (July 31 rain date) and will run from 11AM-4PM with a lunch break from 1- 2PM. All materials will be provided. \nRegistration is free and limited to 10 students. Students must be able to attend all five days\, since the lessons build on each other. Interested students should pre-register with the director of the Gmeiner by either calling 570-724-1917 or emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org.

SUMMARY:The Moving Wall
DESCRIPTION:The Moving Wall which honors over 58\,000 individuals who sacrificed their lives is coming to Tioga County\, PA\, in July.\n\n\n“We’re so excited to be able to bring this moving version of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to the area. This is an opportunity for those unable to attend the full-size version in Washington\, D.C.\, to honor those who sacrificed their lives for us all\,” said Jessica Barron\, Project Coordinator of the upcoming July event. “This event is not possible without the support of area businesses and volunteers from all communities and branches of service.”\n\n\nOpening ceremonies will be held on Wednesday\, July 10\, 2024\, starting at 3:00 PM and people can view the Moving Wall 24 hours each day through closing ceremonies on Sunday\, July 14\, 2024\, at 5:00 PM.\n\n\nThe Moving Wall will depart the area on Monday\, July 15\, 2024.\n\n\n“The Moving Wall\,” which is a half-size replica of “The Wall\,” the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington\, DC. It was built in 1982\, to honor those who died in the Vietnam War\, “The Wall” now has carved into it the names of the 58\,300 American military personnel (eight of whom were women) who were direct casualties of the war\, including about 1300 who are still considered Missing In Action (MIA)\, but officially classified as “Dead\, body not recovered”.\n\n\nJohn\, Norris Shears\, Gerry Haver\, and other Vietnam veteran volunteers built “The Moving Wall.” It went on display for the first time in Tyler\, Texas in October of 1984 and has been touring the country for more than thirty years. Two structures of The Moving Wall now travel the USA from April through November\, spending about a week at each site.\n\n\nThe last time The Moving Wall was in Tioga County\, PA was back in June of 2017 where it was set up at the Island Park in Blossburg\, PA.\n\n\nTo learn more or make a donation visit TiogaCoMovingWall.com .
