DESCRIPTION:The Department of Music at Commonwealth University-Mansfield will present their annual holiday choral concerts in Steadman Theatre on Saturday\, Dec. 7\, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday\, Dec. 8\, at 2:30 p.m. \nMore than 100 singers and instrumentalists in the five university choirs: Grace Notes\, Steadman Singers\, Festival Chorus\, Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will take part. Peggy Dettwiler\, producer and director\, has programmed music from historical classics to popular favorites that celebrate the seasons of winter\, Christmas and Hanukkah. The audience will enjoy singing familiar holiday carols with organ accompaniment by Kenneth Dake of New York City. The program will also feature two student conductors: Victoria Wormuth\, of Mansfield\, and Mayson Bryant\, of Etters. \nThe theme for the concerts\, “Grant Us Peace\,” provides the opportunity to present uplifting choral works with arrangements of familiar carols such as “Do You Hear What I Hear\,” “Still\, Still\, Still\,” selections from Handel’s “Messiah” and songs about bringing peace and love to the world in which we live. \nThe finale will feature singers encircling the auditorium performing Vaughan Williams’ “Nation Shall Not Lift Up a Sword Against Nation” with organ and percussion accompanying. \nTickets are $10 for adults and $5 to seniors\, students and children. DESCRIPTION:At 1 p.m. this coming Tuesday\, Dec. 10\, Cheryl Hein Walters of Mansfield will present “Harp Holiday” for the Golden Afternoons program in the lobby at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.\n\n\nThis free one-hour program is open to anyone 55 years of age or older.\n\n\nWalters will play the harp and sing holiday favorites. Those attending are invited to sing along and pat\, clap or stomp with gusto.\n\n\nCookies\, punch and holiday treats will be provided free.\n\n\nWalters taught elementary music in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas for 11 years before moving to Mansfield in 2007.\n\n\nFor the past 16 years\, she has been teaching harp\, voice and piano at private studios in Wellsboro and in Mansfield and also has harp students at Commonwealth University\, Mansfield.\n\n\nWalters plays harp for dinner parties\, weddings\, funerals and special occasions and many Sundays at St. James Episcopal Church in Mansfield. SUMMARY:Hamilton-Gibson Women's Project Holiday Cabaret\, "All is Shiny & Bright"
DESCRIPTION:An original cabaret-style show\, “All is Shiny & Brite”\, presented by the Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project will be performed December 12 – 14 in the Warehouse Theatre’s Gallery space in Wellsboro. \nThe show features Karin Knaus of Westfield as the lead character Betty Bristol\, a widow who is spending Christmas Eve in the year 1940 doing her evening radio show shift\, taking callers and choosing holiday favorites to play for them. The story is set on a snowy evening in Wellsboro\, and features local lore\, period radio commercials performed live\, and many talented local singers. \nThe script was created by local writer Lilace Guignard in collaboration with the show’s director\, Jessie Thompson\, and musical director Anne Acker. Gary Citro fills the gallery space with piano accompaniment throughout the show. DESCRIPTION:An original cabaret-style show\, “All is Shiny & Brite”\, presented by the Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project will be performed December 12 – 14 in the Warehouse Theatre’s Gallery space in Wellsboro. \nThe show features Karin Knaus of Westfield as the lead character Betty Bristol\, a widow who is spending Christmas Eve in the year 1940 doing her evening radio show shift\, taking callers and choosing holiday favorites to play for them. The story is set on a snowy evening in Wellsboro\, and features local lore\, period radio commercials performed live\, and many talented local singers. \nThe script was created by local writer Lilace Guignard in collaboration with the show’s director\, Jessie Thompson\, and musical director Anne Acker. Gary Citro fills the gallery space with piano accompaniment throughout the show.
