DESCRIPTION:The popularity of the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association’s HERYN (Helping Engage our River’s Youth with Nature) kayaking and fishing program days and recent development of a Northern Tier Regional Director position has led to a new Northern Tier HERYN program opportunity to be held July 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each day will offer the same program to 20 different participants divided into two 10-person groups each day. \nThe program will take place at the Sugarbush Pavilion of the Hills Creek State Park near Wellsboro.  The program will contain intro to kayaking and fishing instruction as well as a Plants Hike and Stream Study. \nParticipants should be between the ages of 10 and 15 and will be learning the fundamentals of kayaking and fishing\, as well as gaining a sense of environmental stewardship through watershed conservation. \nThe program is offered free to participants and all equipment is provided. Participants are required to pack their own lunch\, bring a refillable water bottle\, sunscreen and an extra change of clothing as well as appropriate footwear for watersports (ideally hard-soled water shoes). \nRegistration is capped at 20 participants per day and will be filled in a first-registered\, first-secured order using the following form. DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to announce that Stacy Kelley will be returning for this summer’s artist-in-residency\, but will be offering classes for adults this time. “Learning to See Like an Artist: Building Your Visual Language Toolbox” is for adults who would like to improve their drawing skills. Accurate drawing skills are a core essential to communicating visually. For this 5-day residency students will focus on observing from life and learn how to transfer what they see in 3 dimensions to a 2-dimensional surface. They will be exposed to techniques employed by old master artists to create successful representational drawings. \nClasses will be held on 5 consecutive Wednesdays\, starting June 26 through July 24 (July 31 rain date) and will run from 11AM-4PM with a lunch break from 1- 2PM. All materials will be provided. \nRegistration is free and limited to 10 students. Students must be able to attend all five days\, since the lessons build on each other. DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop with Marjorie Maddox “Poems at the Gallery!” In this generative workshop\, we’ll practice writing poetry that responds to art\, particularly the art on exhibit at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center. Join us as we explore artist Tricia Haegele’s “Abandoned World.” Then it’s off to the races with Christine Moore’s high-fashion display of hats! No previous writing experience necessary. Come ready to engage\, experiment\, write\, laugh. Leave with new drafts and strategies for future poems. \nThe writing workshop will be held on Saturday\, July 20th at 11AM. Participants will be able to view the exhibits when no one else is in the building to let their creativity flow. Class is open to adults only\, and is limited to 15 participants. The cost is $25. Pre-registration and payment are required. DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED UNTIL 2025 \nDowntown Coudersport is the location of this festival celebrating the historical and cultural significance of Eliot Ness in Coudersport.  Local merchants and historians will work together to take the heart of Potter County back to the Prohibition Era for a weekend.  An expanded planning committee has been busy laying the groundwork for a celebration that returns all of the highlights from the first Eliot Ness Fest and adds several more attractions. \n–Plans are progressing for a dramatic re-enactment of the trial of Al Capone at the Potter County Courthouse.   Stay tuned for details!\n–The popular Vintage Eliot Ness/Al Capone Era (pre-1933) Car and Truck Show will return\, with most or all of last year’s participants already registered. A separate Vintage Ness Cleveland Era (late ‘30s and early ‘40s) Car and Truck Show is in the works for the street where Eliot Ness lived. Also\, Law Enforcement Vehicles of various vintages and types will be displayed at the courthouse square.\n–Street theater performances\, an expanded parade\, fireworks\, and other entertainment are in the planning stages.
