SUMMARY:Young Engineers 3-D Exhibit at Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:YOUNG “JUNIOR ENGINEERS” BRING 3D CREATIVITY TO THE GMEINER FOR ULTIMATE SUMMER KICKOFF EXHIBIT \nThe Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is proud to be kicking off summer with a burst of youthful energy\, proudly presenting the “ART-gineered” student exhibition. Running from Saturday\, June 13 through Sunday\, July 5\, 2026\, in the Atrium Gallery\, this lively show features the brilliant imaginations of 100 second-grade students from Don Gill Elementary School. \nThe community\, families\, and art-lovers of all ages are invited to celebrate these young creators at a fun opening reception on Saturday\, June 13\, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments while viewing the artwork\, and admission is completely free. \nThe “ART-gineered” project flips the script on traditional art shows by connecting the students’ second-grade STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art\, and Math) skills with exciting future career paths. For this creative challenge\, student “Junior Engineer” teams worked together to build original 3D sculptures using everyday recycled materials. Every single sculpture was directly inspired by a classic 2D painting by the gallery’s original benefactor\, Arthur Gmeiner. Throughout the month of June\, visitors can see these historic paintings hanging side-by-side with the students’ matching 3D masterpieces. \nYoung visitors attending the exhibit can participate in an interactive scavenger hunt inviting them to explore both Gmeiner’s gallery exhibits. Children who complete the hunt will win a special take-home art pack\, generously provided by the Art Friends of the Gmeiner. \nThe public can view this spectacular collection of regional photography during regular gallery hours\, which are 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM\, Tuesdays through Sundays. The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is closed on Mondays. Admission to the gallery and the opening reception is always free to the public. \nLocated at 134 Main Street in beautiful downtown Wellsboro (directly behind the Green Free Library)\, the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is a large\, free public art gallery. The Gmeiner is deeply committed to providing a professional platform to showcase both emerging and established regional artists.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Soldiers’ Orphans Schools Presentation
DESCRIPTION:The History Center on Main Street will host a special presentation exploring the rich history and local impact of the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ Orphans Schools on Sunday\, June 14\, at 2:00 PM. The event will take place at The History Center\, located at 61 N. Main Street in Mansfield. \nThe presentation features two distinct segments detailing a unique chapter of Pennsylvania history: \n\nLocal History & Impact: Joyce M. Tice\, director of The History Center\, will present the specific history of the Mansfield Soldiers’ Orphan School\, sharing stories of the individuals involved and the profound impact the institution had on the local community.\nA Statewide Overview: Lay historian William Peck will present “Pennsylvania Soldiers’ Orphan Schools 1864–2009\,” offering a broader look at the statewide system established by Governor Andrew Curtin in 1864 to care for and educate the children of Civil War veterans. His talk will focus heavily on both the Mansfield and Harford schools.\n\nBoth presentations will feature an extensive collection of historical photographs of the schools\, staff\, and students. \nMr. Peck brings a deeply personal perspective to the subject\, with ancestral ties to the program dating back to 1899 across multiple schools\, including Chester Springs\, Harford\, and the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children\, where his parents graduated in 1942 and 1950. A 1981 West Point graduate and current data analyst at the U.S. Naval Academy\, Peck has dedicated himself to preserving the legacy of these vital institutions. \nThis event is free and open to the public and offers a compelling look at the intersection of military\, state\, and local history.

To provide a deeper viewer experience\, each displayed piece will feature a unique two-part commentary from the artist: a “First Impression” detailing what people see at first glance\, and a “Closer Look” revealing the deeper story behind the lens.

SUMMARY:Regional Photography Exhibit at Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:“LOOK CLOSER: BEYOND THE 1st IMPRESSION” MAIN GALLERY REGIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT AT THE GMEINER \nThe Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is proud to present its highly anticipated 2026 Regional Photography Exhibit in the Main Gallery. Running from Saturday\, June 13 through Sunday\, July 5\, 2026\, this competitive exhibition showcases the diverse talents of photographers living within a 150-mile radius of Wellsboro. \nThe public is invited to celebrate the artists at an opening reception on Saturday\, June 13\, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Hosted by members of the Grand Canyon Photography Club\, the reception is free to attend and offers a chance to meet the photographers. The official awarding of ribbons by the exhibition juror will take place during the festivities at approximately 3:00 PM. \nFor three weeks\, the Gmeiner’s walls will feature approximately 40 exceptional\, original photographs from 21 distinct regional artists. While local Wellsboro talent is heavily featured\, the exhibition spans multiple communities across Pennsylvania and New York\, with many of the selected images beautifully capturing fleeting moments in nature. To provide a deeper viewer experience\, each displayed piece will feature a unique two-part commentary from the artist: a “First Impression” detailing what people see at first glance\, and a “Closer Look” revealing the deeper story behind the lens.
