SUMMARY:Potter Tioga Maple Weekend
DESCRIPTION:A sweet annual event returns to the region as the Potter-Tioga Maple Producers Association hosts the annual Maple Weekend March 20-21\, 2026. \nThe annual Maple Weekend began in 2005\, and currently has 16 participating farms and educational experiences across Potter and Tioga Counties. The farms offer tours\, demonstrations and the finest in pure maple products\, and visitors learn about the interesting story of each farm and the unique processes developed by individual producers. \nHead across our two counties from farm-to-farm sampling the local product and seeing how some farms fire with natural gas or fuel oil\, while others use a traditional wood fire during the evaporation process. While most farms have gone to tubing and vacuum-pump systems\, a fair number still hang some buckets in the trees\, and a few have foregone central collection all together. Even the creation of products varies at each location and range from maple salad dressing or barbecue sauce to jellies and homemade cookies to maple milkshakes or cotton candy. Each farm has a specialty and a recipe or two that have been passed down through the family over generations. \nIt’s a great weekend to get out to celebrate one of our region’s premiere products!

SUMMARY:History Comes Alive - Harriet Tubman - Deane Center
DESCRIPTION:Head to the Deane Center for the Performing Arts in Wellsboro on Tuesday\, March 24th at 7:30 pm for a History Comes Alive presentation\, “Harriet Tubman” featuring Dr. Daisy Century.\n\n\nBorn Araminta Ross\, Harriet Tubman lived as a slave on a Maryland plantation. Frequently threatened\, beaten\, whipped\, and starved\, Ms. Tubman’s indomitable spirit could not be broken. A Union spy during the Civil War as well as a nurse\, Ms. Tubman directed her consider energies towards humanitarian causes that included women’s suffrage after the war.\n\nDr. Daisy Century considers Harriet Tubman her role model\, someone who encouraged her to put others first and to lead by example. Like her inspiration\, Daisy grew up on a farm\, has a wonderful singing voice and is a determined woman of conviction: once they start a project\, they must see it through to completion. Harriet Tubman reveals a woman who made up her mind as a young girl that things could be better than they were\, “I had reasoned this out in my mind. There was one of two things I had a right to – liberty or death. If I could not have one\, I would have the other.” Tubman shows us a woman who found freedom for herself and then made sure others were brought to freedom. \nSponsored by America250PA and the Charles Knox & Margaret Etner Foundation.
