SUMMARY:Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild 25th Anniversary Bed Turning
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce the 25th anniversary this September of The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild (MLQG)\, which meets monthly at the Gmeiner. As part of that celebration\, the members of MLQG are planning a bed turning event to take place at the Gmeiner on Friday\, September 29th at 7:00 PM and on Saturday\, September 30th at 1:00 PM. What is a bed turning? It’s basically a quilt show in an hour! The selected quilts which are stacked on a bed are turned over one at a time while a member explains and describes them. \nAt the 25th anniversary bed turning\, the guild will highlight quilts made by some of its charter members and presidents\, as well as some past raffle quilts made over the years by many members of the guild. The audience will hear the stories behind the quilts and what inspired the quiltmakers to make them. There will be quilts of all styles\, colors\, and fabrics\, from traditional to modern. \nThis should be a fun and inspirational event for quilters and non-quilters alike\, so be sure to mark your calendars and tell your friends. The bed turning is free and light refreshments will be served. \nTo learn more about the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild\, check out their blog at mountainlaurelquiltguild.blogspot.com. The Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. We are open from 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday and admission to the gallery is always free.

SUMMARY:Private Dark Sky Telescope Tour: Shamans and Saints
DESCRIPTION:The Perseids are coming! While the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower is mid-August\, meteors can be observed any time from late July through the month of August.  As the Earth intersects with the orbit of dust particles left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle in 1992\, visitors will flock to Cherry Springs State Park for a view of the spectacular results.  Watch the meteors streak across the sky as you listen to myths and stories surrounding historical beliefs about shooting stars and constellations. \n\nJoin us at Cherry Spring State Park to take in the splendor of a gold-rated International Dark Skies Park. Those interested in experiencing a more personalized\, small-group telescope tour of the night sky can join North Star Outdoor Guides for a private telescope tour of the night sky.  Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits; includes a discussion of the importance of dark skies\, a laser-guided tour of various constellations\, and telescope viewing.  Objects which may be viewed include planets\, nebulae\, red giants\, globular clusters\, galaxies\, and binary star systems. \nGroup Size: max. capacity 16\, not including children age 5 and under \nBring: Chairs\, bug spray\, and a small red flashlight. You may put your name on a waitlist if the program is full. \nFee: $25/person (includes a $3 non-refundable processing fee); Children (age 5 and under) Free \n*** Payment is required within 24 hrs of your registration\, or your registration will be removed.  Payment can be made by following the link provided in the email you will receive after registering *** \n  \nThe program will be cancelled in the event of rain or overcast skies. \nWeather Policy: If weather or predicted overcast skies result in us having to cancel the program you will receive a refund minus the $3.00 non-refundable processing fee. (You will receive email notification of any decision to cancel the program in its entirety by 3:30 pm the day before the event)  We will do our best to utilize weather forecasts and the Cherry Springs Clear Dark Skies Chart (http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/ChrSprPkPAkey.html) to pre-determine if a program will be possible.  However\, due to the fickle nature of weather our best-made efforts may be thwarted\, and the sky may be overcast during your scheduled tour.  In the event\, your guide is unable to show you at least 3 deep sky objects you will receive a 50% refund. SUMMARY:We Did It Our Way Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce the Wellsboro Art Club’s annual exhibit. The club member’s “We Did It Our Way” exhibit which emphasizes the members individuality will be on display in the Main Gallery from October 7 – October 29.  The exhibit will open with a free reception for the public on Saturday\, October 7th  from 2-4PM with refreshments provided by the art club members\, and a little entertainment for guests as well. Wellsboro Art Club members work in a wide variety of mediums\, including watercolors\, acrylics\, glass\, fiber\, jewelry\, sculpture\, ceramics\, and mixed media. This incredibly creative group never fails to please with their show. \nThe Wellsboro Art Club first formed in 1948 with a group of local painters who wanted to work and learn together. Over the years\, the group expanded to include crafts as well as fine arts. The Wellsboro Art Club meets formally at 10 AM on the first Thursday of each month in the Studio at the Gmeiner. They have informal studio time the 2nd\, 3rd\, and 4th Thursday of each month from 10AM – noon. \nWhen the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center first opened in 1969\, members of the Wellsboro Art Club served as “hostesses” (now called docents) during public showings of Mr. Gmeiner’s works\, and began to arrange for exhibits of other local artists and area children. Since the art club has long had such a close association with our founder\, it only made sense to also display some of Arthur Gmeiner’s works during the month of October in the Atrium gallery. The focus of this exhibit will be on “He Did It His Way” and will focus on Mr. Gmeiner’s individuality. Some of his quirkier artworks and those that show his sense of humor will be displayed. \nThe Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. We are open from 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday and admission to the gallery is always free. This display is appropriate for all ages\, and there will be a scavenger hunt activity for children.
