SUMMARY:A GATHERING OF GLASS EVENT AT THE GMEINER
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a reception for the Wellsboro Glass Historical Association “A Gathering of Glass: The Next Chapter.” This event will take place on Saturday\, February 24th from 6:30-8:30PM at the Gmeiner located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library.  The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available. \nThe Wellsboro Glass Historical Association is dedicated to preserving the history of Wellsboro’s important role in glass manufacturing. Wellsboro was the site of Corning Glass Works’ first satellite factory\, which opened in 1916. Although it went through several other owners\, it remained open for nearly 100 years. This factory is the birthplace of the famous “ribbon machines” which revolutionized modern glassmaking. When the factory closed\, those ribbon machines were first shipped away\, and then scheduled for demolition. Thanks to a social media post by Ryan Root\, a former mechanic at the factory\, a groundswell of interest in saving the machines arose\, permissions were granted\, funds were raised\, the machines were rescued from the scrapyard\, and brought back home to Wellsboro. \nThis event will serve as a “thank you!” from current members of WGHA to the generous individuals and organizations who helped rescue and preserve the ribbon machines\, such as Shawn Bryant\, GROW\, the DeCamp family\, the Packer Foundation\, the Dunham Foundation\, the Sweet Foundation\, the Etner Foundation\, Joe Shabloski\, Home Page Network\, Charlie Messina and Ben Stambaugh. \nSome of the objects in the WGHA’s collection will be on display for the evening\, and members of WGHA will show how they are currently caring for and archiving those objects. Guests will also have the opportunity to paint their own glass ornament\, led by the steady hand of Mary Wise in the Studio.  This reception is also a chance to let the public know about WGHA’s future plans. Members will share their vision for a permanent museum to house the ribbon machines and other artifacts collected in the last few years. Come find out what the future holds for Wellsboro’s glass manufacturing history!

SUMMARY:John Jorgenson Jazz Quintet Presented by WCCA
DESCRIPTION:This is the fourth of the six-concert WCCA 2023-2024 Season. \nMusic of this band has been called “Gypsy Jazz” after the dynamic string-driven swing of Django Reinhard and Stephanie Grappelli in 1930s Paris. Jorgenson’s skillful playing of the guitar\, solo clarinet\, and bouzouki amazes audiences. They are the only American act to headline the Django Reinhardt Memorial Festival in France\, and to be featured at other “Djangofests” in the U.S. and internationally.

DESCRIPTION:The #1 Cars experience in the northeast! Best Friends Girl recreates the timeless hits of The Cars spanning a 35-year career\, with over 23 million albums sold and more than 22 songs on the Billboard Top 100. The Cars undoubtedly left their mark in popular culture with notable hits like “Best Friends Girl\,” “Shake It Up\,” “Magic\,” “Let’s Go\,” and\, of course\, “Moving in Stereo\,” which gained notoriety from its placement in the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Best Friends Girl is comprised of lifelong\, top-notch\, professional musicians whose goal is to keep the music of The Cars alive with every performance! \nThe Cars’ journey began with Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr collaborating on several projects in the early 70’s. Ric and Benjamin eventually completed the lineup with Greg Hawkes\, Elliot Easton\, and David Robinson in Boston 1976.  In the confusion left behind by the death of disco and punk angst\, they forged a new direction\, combining the synthesizer sound with classic rock and roll roots. It created a unique sound for the time\, and icon John Lennon became a fan\, stating\, “I think The Cars’ ‘Touch and Go’ is right out of the fifties’ Oh\, oh… ‘A lot of it is fifties stuff. But with the eighties styling.” \nTickets are $30\, and we will have table seating\, which is the standard for our BYOB shows. There are General Admissions risers in the back of the theatre and the opportunity to rent a table in the middle and front of the theatre. A small table is an additional $5 and seats 2-4 people.
