DESCRIPTION:Feeling the need to express yourself artistically\, but you’re not sure where to start? Do your kids love art and you’re always looking for opportunities for them to learn something new? Want to get those creative juices flowing without having to plan out a project\, buy supplies\, and clean up a mess? Check out “Crafting with Carrie” at the Gmeiner! At each of these informal\, drop-in sessions\, the Gmeiner’s director\, Carrie Heath\, will lead students of all ages in creating a simple craft. These crafting times are free\, all materials are provided\, and students of all ages are encouraged to come! (Parents are requested to stay with their children if they are under 12 years old.) The materials for these crafting sessions are provided by Art’s Friends\, the volunteer group that supports the Gmeiner. \nThere are two crafting sessions scheduled for October. The first one will be on Thursday\, October 17th from 4-6PM. Participants will have the opportunity to create a lace tile (if weather permits) or a tile thumbprint craft. The second crafting session will be held on Thursday\, October 24th from 4-6PM. Participants will get to paint a pumpkin using tole painting techniques and acrylic paint. Some come on down\, learn something new\, and express your creativity!

SUMMARY:10th Annual Benefit for Homeless Animals
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual Homeless Animal Benefit hosted by Jerry and Helen Gaye is Saturday\, Oct. 19\, at the Knoxville VFW\, 703 Boatman Rd. Doors open at 8 a.m. and auction drawings start at 3 p.m. \n  \nThe event features a large chance auction with a variety of items\, including handmade goods\, along with a yard sale and 50-50 raffle.  An event has a new ticketing system this year\, and auction items can also be viewed and tickets purchased the night before\, Friday\, Oct. 18\, starting at 5 p.m. \n  \nThere’s no cover charge for Saturday’s event. Bluegrass and old classic music will be performed pending musicians’ availability. Beverages and food including stew\, burgers\, hotdogs and more will be available to purchase from the VFW. \n  \nProceeds benefit Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries\, a 501c3 nonprofit providing rehabilitation for homeless and at-risk animals in Tioga County and finding them loving new homes for more than 23 years. DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center announces an upcoming workshop titled “Zen Calligraphy and Meditation” which will teach participants how to use art as a form of mindfulness.  The workshop will be held on Saturday\, October 19th from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM in the Studio of the Gmeiner. Participants will learn how to create calligraphy as part of a meditation practice. The workshop is free\, all supplies will be provided and no experience is necessary. If students would like to purchase a calligraphy brush to continue the practice after the class\, those are available for a $20 donation. Pre-registration is not required. The workshop will be led by Quynh Luong\, a member of the Dancing Flame Sangha meditation group that meets at the Gmeiner most Thursdays from 6:30-8PM.

Take a truly terrifying stroll through a section of the Austin Dam Memorial Park if you Dare!!!! There will be ghosts and ghouls lurking around each turn\, in every shadow\, to show you their scariest scares!!!! Do you have what it takes to keep your eyes open and make it to the end of the trail??? Fun for all ages! A Halloween themed movie will be projected on the Dam as well! Donuts\, Cider\, Hot Chocolate & Snacks available for purchase. Ticket sales will be located at the Austin Dam Pavilion the nights of the event. Cost will be $5/kid\, $10/Adult. Growing up on a dairy farm in northern New York and then traveling around the world in a bluegrass band has given them a unique vantage point on life. They can pick. They can write a dang good country song. They’ve won about every bluegrass award you can name and released many albums on almost every premier Americana label including Sugar Hill and Rounder. And as if that’s not enough\, their songs have been recorded by bluegrass legends like Del McCoury. Their talent level is well established\, the only producers they have ever worked with are Ricky Skaggs\, Dan Auerbach\, David Ferguson and Jerry Douglas. It’s a resume almost anybody in country music would be proud to have.  Come and enjoy some mighty fine Bluegrass! The brothers will be accompanied by their band. This is the third concert of the WCCA 6-Concert Season.

DESCRIPTION:Feeling the need to express yourself artistically\, but you’re not sure where to start? Do your kids love art and you’re always looking for opportunities for them to learn something new? Want to get those creative juices flowing without having to plan out a project\, buy supplies\, and clean up a mess? Check out “Crafting with Carrie” at the Gmeiner! At each of these informal\, drop-in sessions\, the Gmeiner’s director\, Carrie Heath\, will lead students of all ages in creating a simple craft. These crafting times are free\, all materials are provided\, and students of all ages are encouraged to come! (Parents are requested to stay with their children if they are under 12 years old.) The materials for these crafting sessions are provided by Art’s Friends\, the volunteer group that supports the Gmeiner. \nThere are two crafting sessions scheduled for October. The first one will be on Thursday\, October 17th from 4-6PM. Participants will have the opportunity to create a lace tile (if weather permits) or a tile thumbprint craft. The second crafting session will be held on Thursday\, October 24th from 4-6PM. Participants will get to paint a pumpkin using tole painting techniques and acrylic paint. Some come on down\, learn something new\, and express your creativity!
