SUMMARY:HAMILTON-GIBSON’S FREE SUMMER THEATRE ARTS CAMP – REGISTER BY JUNE 9TH
DESCRIPTION:Youth completing the fourth through ninth grades in June can register now for Hamilton-Gibson’s Summer Theatre Arts Camp being held at the Tioga County Fairgrounds in Whitneyville. “We need to know how many youth are going to participate by Friday\, June 9 so we can order enough camp T-shirts and prepare scripts and other materials to give to each camper on Monday\, June 26\, the first day of camp\,” said Thomas Putnam\, Hamilton-Gibson’s artistic director. The HG camp is free and open to those that want to participate no matter where they live and no matter whether they are homeschooled or attend public or private school. The five-day camp at Whitneyville will be from 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday\, June 26\, 27\, 28\, 29 and 30. The last day of camp on June 30 will be a regular day with the addition of two public performances at 3pm and 6:30pm in the Tioga County Youth Center building at the fairgrounds. The jam-packed week will offer campers opportunities to hone their skills in acting\, singing and dance through a variety of workshops provided by the staff and guest artists. Bus transportation is provided free. “Routes and times will be determined after we have received the registrations\,” Putnam said. Campers will be picked up and taken to Whitneyville and then returned to their pickup sites each day after camp. The only exception will be on Friday\, June 30. That day\, the campers will be picked up but parents will be responsible for taking their campers home after the 6:30pm performance. “With the success of ‘Tales of Tioga’ in 2021 and ‘Shakin’ Up Shakespeare’ in 2022\, we were able to create something wonderful\, including friendships\,” Putnam said. “That’s why we are doing a similar production this summer.” To register for the camp\, download the 2023 Summer Theatre Arts Camp flyer and application by visiting the Hamilton-Gibson website at www.hamiltongibson.org and clicking on “Enrichment”\, then on “For Kids” then “Camps” and then scroll down to the button tagged “Click Here for Application.” Complete and send the application to: Attention: Theatre Arts Camp\, Hamilton-Gibson Productions\, 29 Water Street\, Wellsboro\, PA 16901. For more information about the camp\, transportation or for answers to any other questions\, call 570-724-2079 or email hamgib@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:ROOTSTOCK RACING – THE ENDLESS MOUNTAINS EXPEDITION RACE
DESCRIPTION:The Endless Mountains Adventure Race offers teams of 2-4 an opportunity to explore the PA Wilds by foot\, mountain bike\, and boat\, all the while navigating the course using map and compass skills. This year we are offering two divisions: the premier five-day expedition race\, which is part of the Adventure Race World Series\, and a 30-Hour “Lite” event that will introduce newer racers to the sport of adventure racing. The premier event covers 350 miles of wilderness terrain in the PA Wilds with shorter options for less experienced teams. \nAlong the way\, teams will encounter local history\, paddle scenic waterways\, climb and traverse rocky ridges and mountainsides\, trek and bike through some of our state’s most remote forests\, and encounter Pennsylvania’s abundant wildlife. Teams will work together to overcome the challenges that only expedition races can bring: being tested to their physical and mental limits with challenging overland navigation\, wild terrain\, and weather that can tame even the most hardened outdoors enthusiasts. It is in those moments that the best stories are written! \nDates: June 26-July 1 (five-day); June 26-27 (30-Hour) \nPricing: Varies; see website for more information \nFor more information\, visit : https://www.endlessmountainsar.com/ (five day) and http://www.rootstockracing.com/endless-mountains-adventure-race-lite.html (30-Hour)

SUMMARY:ENDLESS MOUNTAINS ADVENTURE RACE LITE
DESCRIPTION:The 30-hour Endless Mountains Adventure Race Lite is a one-day expedition-style event that will take racers on a journey through the Pennsylvania Wilds. Trek\, bike\, pack raft\, and navigate along the state’s sweeping vistas\, cascading waterways\, rich history of our nation’s complex industrial past\, and rugged (and often rocky) terrain.\nAs an expedition-style event\, Endless-Lite will offer longer stages\, a point-to-point format\, and more self-sufficiency – both an accessible entry point into the world of multi-day racing and a standalone adventure in its own right!\n\nThe race will take place on Monday\, June 26\, coinciding with the start of the five-day Endless Mountains Adventure Race\, a qualifying event for the Adventure Racing World Series. Line up alongside some of the top adventure racers in the world (and those who are setting off on their first expedition race) and get a taste of what Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains have to offer.\nA note on size: We are in the process finalizing our permit for the Endless Mountains with DCNR. The permit will be a combined one for both the five-day and thirty-hour event and will have a participant cap\, still to be determined. Because of this\, we have opened the thirty-hour registration for the first 50 racers and then will start a wait list. Pending on sign-ups for the five-day and final permit numbers\, we will invite more teams to join the thirty-hour event as space allows. Sign up quickly to guarantee your entry or to claim an early ticket on the waitlist!

SUMMARY:History of the Mansfield Dairymen’s League plant
DESCRIPTION:The Mansfield History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us in partnership with First Citizens Community Bank\, will host a special presentation on the history of the Mansfield Dairymen’s League plant in conjunction with June’s Dairy Month celebration.\n\n\nThe presentation will take place on Sunday June 25\, at the Museum of Us at 61 North Main Street in Mansfield. Free ice cream sundaes will be served at the conclusion of the presentation. The free event is sponsored by First Citizens Community Bank.\n\n\nThe special presentation will feature a history of the Dairymen’s League plant in Mansfield by Tice. Long-time Tioga County Commissioner and dairy farmer Erick Coolidge will be honored to speak of the importance of the dairy industry in Tioga County.\n\n\nThe Borough of Mansfield will also present the History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us with the original Dairymen’s League signage which hung on the outside wall of the testing room prior to the borough purchasing the building for use as the borough garage. Mansfield Mayor Kathy Barrett will present a proclamation recognizing importance of the Dairyman’s League in Mansfield’s history.\n\n\nThe Mansfield Branch of Dairymen's League Inc. was organized in the fall and winter of 1916-1917. The membership grew until Dec. 31st\, 1920 when there were 220 farmers who had\njoined the organization of the Mansfield Local.\n\n\nOct. 1\, 1920 notices were posted on the plants of the Mansfield Dairy Co.\, which then processed most of the local milk\, that they would close. This put the patrons of the plants in a position where it was necessary to find an alternative processor. A committee was appointed to interview Mr. W.D. Rose\, President of the Mansfield Dairy\, regarding processing the League patrons’ milk. It was agreed that his company take the milk and manufacture it at the expense\nof the patrons and pay the balance to them. This was for three months\, October\, November\, and December of 1920.\n\n\nWhile this was being done the Dairymen’s League members raised the money to either build plants or buy the ones owned by the Mansfield Dairy Co.\, and the deal was closed Sunday\, January 1st\, 1921. The pooling system known as the Mansfield chapter of the Dairymen’s League Cooperative Association came into being with plants in Mansfield\, Seeley Creek\, Jobs Corners\, Roseville and Mainesburg.\n\n\nIn 1969\, the Dairymen’s League Cooperative Association changed its name to the more recognizable Dairylea after its famous brand of milk.\n\n\nThe original Mansfield Condensary\, located behind the current Mansfield Plaza\, was built in October 1905 by W. D. Rose of the Mansfield Dairy Company and dismantled in 1951. The new\nmodern shipping plant was built and operated until closing October 1st\, 1961. It currently serves as the Mansfield Borough garage. The plants consisted of Mansfield\, Seeley Creek\, Jobs Corners\, Roseville and Mainesburg.\n\n\nThe History Center on Main Street and Museum of Us is located at 61 North Main Street in Mansfield\, PA.

SUMMARY:FREE WATERCOLOR CLASSES FOR ADULTS
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a series of free watercolor classes for adults in the Studio at the Gmeiner. All classes will be led by Kathy Pilling-Whitney of Tioga\, who has many years of teaching experience and is an accomplished watercolor painter. There will be two beginner sessions in June\, and then a series of three classes in July for those who want to learn more advanced techniques. The classes are free\, but students must provide their own materials. For these classes\, students will need to purchase a set of watercolor paints (tubes or pans – not opaque)\, at least six sheets of 140 pound watercolor paper (8×10”\, 9×12” or 11×14”)\, a watercolor palette to mix colors\, and a set of watercolor (NOT acrylic) brushes. \nThe beginner class will be offered on two dates – Sunday\, June 4th and Sunday\, June 25th from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for one session or the other by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This class is intended for students who have little to no experience with watercolor painting and is limited to 12 students per session. The beginner class will be an exploration of the properties of transparent watercolor so that students can become familiar with the medium and increase their confidence in using it. The two-hour class will include discussion of the following: masking white vs. leaving white vs. using tape\, transparent vs. opaque watercolor\, and the use of watercolor markers and watercolor pencils. Students will also explore fluid (wet-in-wet)\, wet-on-dry\, and drybrush techniques. Demonstrations and coaching will be done for both still life and abstract designs. Students should leave the class with at least one painting\, increased skills and confidence in using watercolors\, and perhaps a desire to continue developing their skills in the advanced series of classes. \nThe advanced classes will be held on July 9th\, 16th\, and 23rd from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for all three sessions by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This series of classes is intended to greatly develop the students’ ability to use watercolors\, and is open to students who took the beginner class or who have previous experience with watercolors. It is limited to 12 participants. The first class will start with a review of basic techniques\, and then participants will practice various watercolor techniques over the course of the three days using a variety of subject matter. Students will paint a mostly white still life creating depth and shadows without using black. They will paint a floral design and learn about color glazing with watercolors\, and they will complete an abstract design. \nThe Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. Students should park on Main Street in front of the library.

SUMMARY:Night Sky Tour - Intro to the Summer Sky
DESCRIPTION:Wish you knew your way around the night sky? Experience the wonder of a starry night at Cherry Springs State Park through a laser-guided tour conducted by park staff. \nLearn how to find the Big Dipper and the North Star\, and learn a few key summer constellations. Great for beginners! Listen as we recount the legends and myths surrounding these mysterious patterns in the sky. Learn about park history\, current use\, and the importance of dark night skies. \nRegistration encouraged\, but not required. Should we need to cancel or modify a program due to weather\, etc.\, we will email all registered participants. Optional registration will open 45 days before the program. \nWhile you may still observe on your own at the park without attending a program\, all visitors should arrive before dark. \nPark programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the gravel lot and follow the walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Since seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket. \nWe ask that park visitors please leave their pets at home. Dim lighting\, large crowds and sensitive equipment do not create a pet-friendly environment. \nAll programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder. \nCheck the Clear Sky Chart or Astrospheric for 48-hour forecasts of cloud cover and viewing conditions. \nPhoto courtesy of Universe Today.
