DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to announce that Stacy Kelley will be returning for this summer’s artist-in-residency\, but will be offering classes for adults this time. “Learning to See Like an Artist: Building Your Visual Language Toolbox” is for adults who would like to improve their drawing skills. Accurate drawing skills are a core essential to communicating visually. For this 5-day residency students will focus on observing from life and learn how to transfer what they see in 3 dimensions to a 2-dimensional surface. They will be exposed to techniques employed by old master artists to create successful representational drawings. \nClasses will be held on 5 consecutive Wednesdays\, starting June 26 through July 24 (July 31 rain date) and will run from 11AM-4PM with a lunch break from 1- 2PM. All materials will be provided. \nRegistration is free and limited to 10 students. Students must be able to attend all five days\, since the lessons build on each other. Interested students should pre-register with the director of the Gmeiner by either calling 570-724-1917 or emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org.

DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend a SENIOR EXPO AND POTTER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER COUNTY WIDE GET-TOGETHER to be held at the Coudersport Arboretum located at 201 S West Street\, Coudersport\, on Monday\, June 24th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Rain date will be Tuesday\, June 25th. The SENIOR EXPO is sponsored by the Coudersport Arboretum Association and in collaboration with Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging. \nThis year the Potter County Senior Center’s County Wide Get-together will join the Senior Expo. Participants from the Coudersport\, Galeton\, Ulysses and Oswayo Valley Senior Centers will attend to visit the vendor displays\, enjoy morning refreshments and a hot dog lunch and participate in games and activities. \nVarious agencies and businesses will set up tables displaying their services and products that assist older adults. No political campaign set-ups will be featured. \nVendors will set up along the paths that meander through the beautiful memorial Arboretum displaying a variety of flowers\, trees and bushes on the historic C&PA railroad grounds. Stroll along the Honor Walk bricks inscribed in memory or tribute to loved ones and visit the Veteran’s Honor Wall while visiting vendor’s tables. \nThere are plenty of memorial benches throughout the Arboretum to relax and enjoy the day. Sign up for door prizes. Free morning refreshments and a hot dog lunch are sponsored by Rep. Martin Causer and Senator Cris Dush.

DESCRIPTION:A critically acclaimed national recording group will be performing a free public concert indoors at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum at 7 pm on Saturday\, June 22. \nPotter County Creative Council (PC3)\, the new countywide arts and culture organization\, presents the California Guitar Trio for a program from multiple genres – from classical to rock\, from jazz to world music. \nOpening the show with brief performances will be local school musicians Ronan Bray and Lillian Vought\, as part of PC3’s commitment to integrate school-based music\, art and theater programs into its mission. Donations to support the work of PC3 will be accepted at the door. \nComprised of Bert Lams\, Tom Griesgraber and Paul Richards\, the California Guitar Trio has been establishing a unique\, personal connection with audiences for more than 30 years. \nIn addition to dazzling musicianship and interplay\, CGT shows are full of captivating stories and humor. \nOne reviewer wrote\, “The universe of guitar knows no boundaries for the California Guitar Trio. They have a way of making concertgoers feel like they are part of the music.” \nCGT has toured extensively – more than 2\,000 gigs – and collaborated with exploratory rock bands such as Yes and King Crimson\, along with Taj Mahal\, John McLaughlin\, the California Symphony\, Rick Wakeman and others. \nThe June 22 concert is made possible through support from the Pa. SUMMARY:Once Upon a Crime\, The Trial of Goldilocks
DESCRIPTION:Will justice be served in this hilarious fairy-tale courtroom play packed with characters we all know and love? Goldilocks is the defendant\, on trial for breaking and entering. The plaintiffs are — you guessed it — the three bears. As their lawyers Henny Penny and Tom Thumb go toe-to-toe hoping to prove their respective clients’ cases\, other fairy tale characters are called to testify as witnesses\, including Hansel and Gretel\, Jack and Cow\, and Granny. Even the Big Bad Wolf takes the stand\, but can any of these witnesses be trusted themselves? Is Goldilocks guilty or innocent? Come and find out in this comedic courtroom farce where it’s up to the audience\, which serves as the jury\, to determine how the play ends! HG performances are General Admission. In most cases\, the theatre will be opened for you to choose your seats 30 minutes prior to the performance. Even though you are prepaid\, most events do not allow for seating after the performance begins\, as it is disruptive to other patrons. DESCRIPTION:The Laurel Festival 10K\, sponsored by First Citizens Community Bank\, will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday\, June 15 followed at 9:05 a.m. by the two-mile Fun Run/Walk. The 10K course has rolling hills\, paved and dirt surfaces\, and exciting Pennsylvania Grand Canyon country views.\n\n\nRegistration\, check in and packet pickup will be at Packer Park on Queen Street from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on race day. The entry fee for the 10K is $25 and for the Fun Run is $5. Race day registrants pay in cash or by check.\n\n\nThose who preregister for the 10K on or before next Saturday\, June 1 will receive a free event T-shirt presented by First Citizens Community Bank and be entered in the “Early Bird Drawing” with a chance to win $25 in Wellsboro Chamber Dollars to spend in area businesses.\n\n\nUPMC Wellsboro is sponsoring the awards. Medals\, certificates and other prizes will be presented to 10K male and female runners who place in the top three overall; finish first\, second or third in each age category (19 and under\, 20-29\, 30-39\, 40-49\, 50-59\, 60-69 and 70 and over) and to the oldest and youngest runners that finish first.\n\n\nEach Fun Run participant will receive a commemorative ribbon. DESCRIPTION:A family tradition. Medallions awarded in the following categories: largest perch\, largest bluegill\, largest bass\, largest crappie\, largest stringer of game fish by weight (for 1 angler’s legal limit of gamefish for the day).  A 1 oz. bonus for game fish that are caught and released.  All fish must be caught by legal means.  This is a no cull contest (no replacing a smaller fish with a heavier fish on the stringer).  In the event of a tie\, the earliest-weighed fish will win.  Weigh-in at the beach area near lake shore from 12 – 1 PM and from 7 – 8 PM with awards immediately following the final weigh-in.

SUMMARY:“CAPTURED MOMENTS” EXHIBIT AT THE GMEINER
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is thrilled to announce a regional photography exhibit in the Main Gallery\, “Captured Moments\,” featuring photographers from within 150 miles of Wellsboro. The exhibit will open on Friday\, June 14th with a reception from 6-8PM hosted by members f the Grand Canyon Photography Club. The reception is free and open to the public\, who are invited to come meet the photographers and see the awarding of ribbons\, which will take place at 7PM. This exhibit will remain on display until Sunday\, July 7th. \nFor three weeks\, the walls of the Gmeiner will be graced by some of the best photography in the area. Approximately 40 photographs from 17 photographers will be on display. There are\, of course\, several participants from Wellsboro\, but other areas of Tioga County are represented as well – Mansfield\, Lawrenceville\, Elkland and Westfield. This exhibit has also brought participants from Coudersport\, Troy\, Montrose\, and Northumberland in Pennsylvania\, as well as Corning and Big Flats in New York. Many of the photographs capture beautiful moments in nature. \nThe juror for this exhibit is Sarah Blodgett\, a portrait\, commercial\, and fine art photographer from Ithaca\, NY. Born in New York City\, her family moved to the Hudson Valley in the late 1960s. Since the purchase of her first camera at the age of ten\, upstate NY has been her chief source of inspiration for her landscapes and still lives\, and has also served as a backdrop for her portrait work. Artistically\, Sarah’s work has been exhibited at the Tivoli Artist Gallery in Tivoli NY\, Deborah Davis Fine Art Gallery in Hudson\, NY\, Madelyn Jordan Fine Art in Scarsdale NY\, the Barrett art center in Poughkeepsie\, NY\, her own gallery in Millerton\, NY and many group shows in the Tri State region. Her work has been published in Fine Gardening\, Country Living Gardener\, The Country\, Catskill mountain Region Guide\, The Knot\, Martha Stewart\, The Sun Magazine\, Berkshire Home & Style\, Quest Magazine and 2wice magazine published by Pentagram.  She has been featured as a “trendsetter” in Art Business News. The Gmeiner is pleased to have such an accomplished photographer agree to judge our exhibit. \nThe Gmeiner is open from 12-6PM Tuesdays through Sundays and is located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro behind the Green Free Library. Admission to the gallery is free.

SUMMARY:“A SLICE OF LIFE” EXHIBIT AT THE GMEINER
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a new Atrium Gallery exhibit “A Slice of Life” featuring watercolors by Corning artist\, Lee O’Connell. The exhibit will open on Friday\, June 14th with a reception from 6-8PM. The reception is free and open to the public\, who are invited to come meet the artist. This exhibit will remain on display until Sunday\, July 7th. Lee says of the exhibit\, “This show is inspired by my love of noticing the little things that inspire me to take note.  Whether it’s a person\, a flower\, a bird… be there a shaft of light that attracts my attention\, or colors screaming for me to paint them\, or maybe just a quiet little moment that makes me think\, any and all can inspire my art.” \nLee O’Connell is primarily a watercolor artist who dabbles in oils. She began her artistic career after retiring as Director of Admissions\, from Chemung Valley Montessori School in Big Flats.  Lee is a self-taught painter\, though truly that is a misnomer as there have been many teachers in her life.  Lee has always had a creative soul\, though\, even if she does not have formal training.
