DESCRIPTION:Feeling the need to express yourself artistically\, but you’re not sure where to start? Do your kids love art and you’re always looking for opportunities for them to learn something new? Check out “Crafting with Carrie” at the Gmeiner! At each of these informal\, drop-in sessions\, the Gmeiner’s director\, Carrie Heath\, will lead students of all ages in creating a simple craft. These crafting times are free\, all materials are provided\, and students of all ages are encouraged to come! (Parents are requested to stay with their children if they are under 12 years old.) All of the materials for these crafting sessions are provided by Art’s Friends\, the volunteer group that supports the Gmeiner.\nThere are two crafting sessions scheduled for September\, both of which tie in with the current Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild exhibit. The first one will be on Thursday\, September 19th from 4-6PM. Participants will learn simple hand sewing skills. The second one will be held on Thursday\, September 26th from 4-6PM. Participants will get to make a Halloween ghost from quilt batting. Some come on down\, learn something new\, and express your creativity!

SUMMARY:“Magnificent Monarchs”
DESCRIPTION:Coudersport Public Library will host “Magnificent Monarchs”\, a free program and Monarch butterfly tagging demonstration\, on Tuesday\, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the endangered Monarch butterfly\, and its amazing migration.  The program is geared for upper elementary school age through adult participants. \nEmily Shosh\, educator for the Potter County Conservation District\, will discuss conservation efforts for Monarchs and other pollinators. Participants will also learn about citizen science opportunities\, including tagging\, and assist with tagging of live\, wild butterflies on-site! \nIn July 2022\, the International Union for Conservation of Nature listed the Monarch Butterfly as “Endangered”. There are multiple threats to monarch butterflies including habitat loss\, climate change and agricultural pesticide use that is reducing milkweed populations—a plant on which the monarch lays its eggs. Community scientists are encouraged to help track Monarchs.  These land stewards are also helping monarch populations by planting local and native species of milkweed at many preserves across North America. This event is an opportunity to be part of those efforts. \nRegistration is required. Call the Library at 814-274-9382\, stop in\, or email coudersportlibrary@gmail.com in advance of the program.

DESCRIPTION:An old-style threshing bee and farm show is scheduled for Saturday\, Sept. 14\, at a site just off Rt. 6 in Mina\, west of Coudersport. Klein Family Century Farm\, operated by Karl and Ilene Altenhein\, hosts the free event to preserve activities that were once a major part of rural living in the area. Starting at 10 am\, antique tractors\, sawmills\, pump jacks\, automobiles and engines will be on display. There will also be demonstrations of threshing\, sacking and straw-baling. A quilting cabin will be in operation with a spinning wheel display\, yard winders\, quilt in frame and old-time kitchen utensils. Serving of a chili lunch starts at 12:30. DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce the Atrium and Main Gallery exhibit for September\, the bi-annual Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild members exhibit. This exhibit\, which is always very popular\, showcases the members’ artistry in fabric. The Atrium gallery features examples of the guild’s charitable work\, and the main gallery showcases members’ large\, small\, wall hanging\, and miniature quilts. There is also a “Challenge Quilt” section\, and members will be selling tickets for this year’s two beautiful raffle quilts. The exhibit will open on Saturday\, September 14th with a reception from 2-4PM. The reception is free and open to the public\, who are invited to come enjoy light refreshments and meet some of the artists behind the quilts. This exhibit will remain on display until Sunday\, October 6th.
