SUMMARY:Private Dark Sky Telescope Tour: Shamans and Saints
DESCRIPTION:The Perseids are coming! While the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower is mid-August\, meteors can be observed any time from late July through the month of August.  As the Earth intersects with the orbit of dust particles left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle in 1992\, visitors will flock to Cherry Springs State Park for a view of the spectacular results.  Watch the meteors streak across the sky as you listen to myths and stories surrounding historical beliefs about shooting stars and constellations. \n\nJoin us at Cherry Spring State Park to take in the splendor of a gold-rated International Dark Skies Park. Those interested in experiencing a more personalized\, small-group telescope tour of the night sky can join North Star Outdoor Guides for a private telescope tour of the night sky.  Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits; includes a discussion of the importance of dark skies\, a laser-guided tour of various constellations\, and telescope viewing.  Objects which may be viewed include planets\, nebulae\, red giants\, globular clusters\, galaxies\, and binary star systems. \nGroup Size: max. capacity 16\, not including children age 5 and under \nBring: Chairs\, bug spray\, and a small red flashlight. (ONLY RED LIGHTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE VIEWING FIELD.) \nDress: Dress warmly for cooler than anticipated night temperatures.  The field is at a higher elevation and exposed. \nRegistration Required – Registration will open 45 days before the program when possible and close at 3pm 2 days before the program (or when full). You may put your name on a waitlist if the program is full. \nFee: $25/person (includes a $3 non-refundable processing fee); Children (age 5 and under) Free \n*** Payment is required within 24 hrs of your registration\, or your registration will be removed.  Payment can be made by following the link provided in the email you will receive after registering *** \n  \nThe program will be cancelled in the event of rain or overcast skies. \nWeather Policy: If weather or predicted overcast skies result in us having to cancel the program you will receive a refund minus the $3.00 non-refundable processing fee. SUMMARY:FREE OUTDOOR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES TO FEATURE MOLLY'S BOYS JUGBAND
DESCRIPTION:At 4:30 p.m. this Friday\, July 21\, the free outdoor summer concert series will feature Molly’s Boys\n\n\nJugband on the outdoor stage located on the Central Avenue side of the Deane Center for the Performing Arts building at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.\n\n\nIf weather becomes an issue\, this free concert will be moved into the Coolidge Theatre. Donations are always appreciated.\n\n\nThis three-member group plays blues\, folk\, rock\, and original tunes. With two guitars and a woodwind player they perform their music with feeling and expertise.\n\n\nGerry Cavaliere\, a songwriter and teacher in the Danville area\, helped form the group to play in his classroom as a way to teach teamwork and self-esteem. He retired from teaching last year.\n\n\nJohn Sweeney on lead guitar and harmonica loves to share his passion for music. He has played in several blues bands in the Susquehanna Valley\, a region that borders the Susquehanna River in the states of New York\, Pennsylvania and Maryland. He lives near Bloomsburg.\n\n\nDave Driskell of Wellsboro\, classically trained on clarinet and saxophone\, has toured extensively throughout the Northeast as well as overseas with the Sadie Green Sales Jugband.\n\n\n“Our name is the result of our first real gig in May 2018 in Lewisburg\,” said Driskell. “We played for a little girl named Molly on her third birthday. DESCRIPTION:Calling all Musicians! The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a series of free Open Mic Nights for Musicians. These will be held on the third Wednesday of each month starting on March 15th\, from 7-9PM. Musicians of all ages are invited to participate\, and all acoustic styles are welcome. The open mic concept is very welcoming and relaxed. Each musician or group will have up to 15 minutes to share their music with the audience. We hope to have everyone from beginners to seasoned performers participate.\nMusicians should arrive by 6:30 in order to sign up for a performance time. These will be arranged on a first-come\, first-serve basis. If a musician isn’t comfortable with a full 15 minutes\, we will accommodate that as well. Performers should bring their own instruments\, unless they plan to play the Gmeiner’s piano. There will also be a basic sound system available. If all of the 15-minute slots do not fill up\, we may end the evening with a jam session. This is a great opportunity to have fun and meet other local musicians.\nIf you are a music lover\, please come out to enjoy the performances and cheer on the brave souls who step up to the mic. DESCRIPTION:From July 17th through July 28th\, Rand Whipple of Box of Light Digital Arts Studio is presenting two weeks of digital arts\, animation\, and film camps at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts in Wellsboro. Youngsters are invited to join Whipple to learn about stop motion animation\, green screen film\, robotics\, digital books\, and more. The camps are available thanks to generous support from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and  the Northern Tier Partners for the Arts. \nEach camp is $25 per student. There are limited funds available for scholarships and a 10% discount per child if multiple campers are from the same family. The deadline to apply is June 25\, 2023\, and enrollment fees are due July 3\, 2023. Scholarship applications are due June 25\, 2023 and selected recipients will be notified June 29\, 2023. Program acceptance is first come\, first serve as there are a limited number of seats available in each camp.  \nThe Lego Maniacs Camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Adventure Film Camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be held for five days\, Monday\, July 17 to Friday\, July 21. \nLego Maniacs Camp \nThis camp is absolutely fun\, cool and perfect for kids that love Legos. It is limited to 15 participants\, ages 6-8. Four days of the Lego Maniacs Camp are focused on Lego animation. Working in teams of three\, the campers will plan\, build and then film a stop motion animation using Lego mini figs and Lego brick sets. Once the animation is complete\, these young filmmakers will learn how to add sound\, titles\, and the all-important credits for their own Lego creations. One day of the camp will be spent building and programming robots using the Lego Mindstorms System. \nAdventure Film Camp \nPirates? Outer space? Zombies? In the Adventure Film Camp\, Box Of Light Digital Arts Studio will help kids\, ages 9-12\, make the most amazing adventure movie ever. They will learn how to frame a shot\, act for the camera\, structure a dramatic or comic scene\, edit video\, lay in sound effects\, and even create a simple musical score. There will be two beginner sessions in June\, and then a series of three classes in July for those who want to learn more advanced techniques. The classes are free\, but students must provide their own materials. For these classes\, students will need to purchase a set of watercolor paints (tubes or pans – not opaque)\, at least six sheets of 140 pound watercolor paper (8×10”\, 9×12” or 11×14”)\, a watercolor palette to mix colors\, and a set of watercolor (NOT acrylic) brushes. \nThe beginner class will be offered on two dates – Sunday\, June 4th and Sunday\, June 25th from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for one session or the other by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This class is intended for students who have little to no experience with watercolor painting and is limited to 12 students per session. The beginner class will be an exploration of the properties of transparent watercolor so that students can become familiar with the medium and increase their confidence in using it. The two-hour class will include discussion of the following: masking white vs. leaving white vs. using tape\, transparent vs. opaque watercolor\, and the use of watercolor markers and watercolor pencils.  Students will also explore fluid (wet-in-wet)\, wet-on-dry\, and drybrush techniques. Demonstrations and coaching will be done for both still life and abstract designs. Students should leave the class with at least one painting\, increased skills and confidence in using watercolors\, and perhaps a desire to continue developing their skills in the advanced series of classes. \nThe advanced classes will be held on July 9th\, 16th\, and 23rd from 10AM – 12PM. Students should sign up for all three sessions by emailing director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org or calling 570-724-1917. This series of classes is intended to greatly develop the students’ ability to use watercolors\, and is open to students who took the beginner class or who have previous experience with watercolors.  It is limited to 12 participants. The first class will start with a review of basic techniques\, and then participants will practice various watercolor techniques over the course of the three days using a variety of subject matter. Students will paint a mostly white still life creating depth and shadows without using black. They will paint a floral design and learn about color glazing with watercolors\, and they will complete an abstract design. \nThe Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street\, Wellsboro\, behind the Green Free Library. Students should park on Main Street in front of the library.

DESCRIPTION:Look through park telescopes at some of the hidden wonders of the night sky\, searching for double-stars and other features tucked into well-known constellations. In July\, we may even bring out a large telescope similar to the one this photo! \nUnder the guidance of our volunteers and staff\, embark on an amazing telescope tour of the night sky. \nNo pre-registration required. Telescopes available on a first-come\, first-serve basis for the time listed. Availability is subject to staff/volunteer availability\, weather conditions\, and crowd size limitations. \n— \nPark programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the gravel lot and follow the walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Since seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket \nAll programs will be cancelled in the event of rain or thunder. \nTelescopes will not be available in the event of significant cloud-cover. Note that the large telescope requires the ability to go up and down a sturdy set of steps with a railing. \nWe ask that all visitors please leave pets at home. Dim lighting\, large crowds and sensitive equipment do not create a pet-friendly environment. \nCheck the Clear Sky Chart or Astrospheric for 48-hour forecasts of cloud cover and viewing conditions.

DESCRIPTION:Wish you knew your way around the night sky? Experience the wonder of a starry night at Cherry Springs State Park through a laser-guided tour conducted by park staff. \nLearn how to find the Big Dipper and the North Star\, and learn a few key summer constellations. Great for beginners! Listen as we recount the legends and myths surrounding these mysterious patterns in the sky. Learn about park history\, current use\, and the importance of dark night skies. \nRegistration encouraged\, but not required. Should we need to cancel or modify a program due to weather\, etc.\, we will email all registered participants.
