DESCRIPTION:An free opportunity to learn a favorite winter activity is happening February 8th at the Wildlife Center in Sinnemahoning State Park. \nSnowshoeing is a great way to explore your favorite trails in winter. Snowshoes and trekking poles will be\nprovided. Program will begin indoors with an introduction to snowshoeing equipment and styles\, followed by\na guided practice instruction on level ground\, then a short excursion on the trail. If snow depth is insufficient\nfor snowshoeing\, the indoor portion of the program will still be held\, followed by a roughly 2 mile nature\nhike. Registration Required.

SUMMARY:Mt Tom Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Do you consider yourself a winter warrior and pride yourself on your skills?  Take the Mt. Tom Challenge and put yourself to the test! \nBe part of the fun of this annual event where participants run\, climb or scramble up Mt. Tom’s 1\,100 vertical feet of trail to its summit. After catching their breath and taking in views of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and west nearly to Galeton\, they continue a short distance along the ridge before descending Mt. Tom using a forest road. \nThe challenge is to complete one lap up and down the mountain regardless of weather conditions. “This can be considered an\nadventure race\, a run or a climb\,” said Ben Stone\, one of the organizers. “It is for serious runners; not beginners. There are no prizes\,\nno swag bag or T-shirt. This is a no-frills event. It’s a great way to get out on the trails in winter.” \nParticipants can start a lap any time between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. \nDate: Sunday\, February 9\, 2025 – Start Time: 9:00 am.  The challenge is to complete at least one lap within two hours in whatever conditions are present. Not enough of a challenge? Then do as many as you can in that time! Register by 8:30am day of event. \nCost: FREE – no prizes\, just a great morning out on the trails.  Participants: Some type of traction device may be required based on trail conditions (screw-shoes\, yak-traks\, microspikes\, etc\, or even snowshoes!) Remember conditions will vary with elevation and some areas hold snow much longer than most. Ice can be the toughest condition and is common this time of year. The course WILL vary greatly based on weather\, snow and ice conditions. It’s winter. It’s part of what makes this a challenge!!!

Caroline Browning\, an accomplished bassist\, completes the trio. Their version of “Pound a Week Rise” rose to #1 on the US Folk DJ charts and their all-violin video cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” has more than 16 million views on Facebook where it was shared over 400\,000 times. DESCRIPTION:Doogie Horner\, author and illustrator of The Adventures of Invisible Boy graphic novel series\, will be greeting fans and talking about his work at Pop’s Culture Shoppe on Saturday\, February 22 at 2:00pm! \nDoogie’s first book in the series was distinguished as the 2024 best graphic novel for elementary school readers by The Week Junior\, and now Book #2 The Adventures of Invisible Boy: Zeroes to Heroes is hot off the press! From 2:00-2:30 Horner will give a presentation suitable for ages 6-12 about creating comic books\, and then will be available for questions and book signings until 4pm. \nDoogie’s work includes books for teens and adults too\, and Pop’s will have a selection available for purchase and signing. Raised in Pennsylvania\, he studied design at Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia\, and spent his early career designing book covers\, working at Quirk Books for about ten years. Doogie also does stand-up and you may have seen him as a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent. With his diverse writing\, design\, and comedic talents\, Horner’s work has something for everyone. \nSave the date and plan to meet him here in Pop’s Playroom!
