Jones\,” a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s best-selling books created specifically for Broadway Junior performers. \nThe campers will be taught choreography\, how to project their voices when speaking and singing and how to create a character – all while having fun. Among the show’s many songs are “You Can Be My Friend\,” “Lucille Camille Chenille\,” “Show and Tell” and “Sheldon Potts’ Halftime Show.” \nJoin Junie B. on her first day of first grade\, where many changes are in store. Junie’s best friend Lucille has found new best friends and Junie B. makes friends with Herb\, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class\, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady\, an intense kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal\,” and first grade has never been more exciting. \nFeaturing many lovable characters and fun-filled songs\, “Junie B. Jones JR” will capture the audience’s and performer’s hearts just as the books captivated an entire generation of students. \nCampers are expected to be at all scheduled rehearsals. The basic times are 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. \nThe Winter Theatre Arts Camps are offered at no cost to campers due to generous grants from the Deerfield Charitable Trust and UPMC Wellsboro. Each camper will receive a tee shirt\, script\, rehearsal cd and instruction.

SUMMARY:IN AWE OF ENGLAND EXHIBIT
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce an opening reception for a new Atrium Gallery exhibit for February 2024. “In Awe of England\, But Happy to be Home” is an exhibit of pastels by Wanda Short of Stony Fork.  The pieces in this exhibit were inspired by Wanda’s recent tour of the British countryside with a knitting group. The opening reception will be held on Saturday\, February 10th from 2-4PM. Light refreshments\, including desserts from Yorkshire Meadows\, will be served at the reception\, which is free and open to the public. \nWanda Short is originally from downstate Pennsylvania. She attended Mansfield College from 1964-1968\, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. She moved back to the area in the early 2000s\, first to Galeton\, and then settling in the village of Stony Fork. Wanda has tried her hand at many different media\, but has always loved pastels which bridge the divide between drawing and painting. Wanda studied pastel portraiture with Leo Gilroy in Hershey. She does still create some portraits; however\, her more recent work has focused on landscapes. \nWhen she traveled to Great Britain in May of 2023\, Wanda was awed by the beauty of the country. The Cotswalds are considered an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” in England\, a land of rolling green hills and picturesque towns built of golden stone. Wanda hopes that visitors to her exhibit will be similarly inspired to see the beauty in simple things like a fence\, a fountain\, and the neighbor’s dog. Whether you are venturing out into the world\, or simply appreciating the wonders of your neighborhood\, there is beauty to be found all around us. This exhibit will be on display in the Atrium Gallery from February 10 through March 3. \nThe Gmeiner is open from 12-6PM Tuesdays through Sundays and is located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro behind the Green Free Library. Admission to the gallery is free.

SUMMARY:FORTIFIED EXHIBIT
DESCRIPTION:The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is excited to announce an opening reception for the February 2024 Main Gallery exhibit\, “Fortified” by members of the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Visual Arts.  Over the course of the past few years\, the campuses of Mansfield\, Lock Haven\, and Bloomsburg Universities have gone through a process of integration\, creating the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. The art faculty members from the three campuses have taken this as a chance to draw strength from each other\, to fortify the Department of Visual Arts into a great resource for all of rural central Pennsylvania. This exhibit features photographs\, paintings\, sculptures\, ceramics\, prints\, fiber\, and mixed media from many of the professors at the three campuses. The opening reception will be held on Saturday\, February 10th from 2-4PM. Light refreshments will be served at the reception\, which is free and open to the public. \nThe Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania Department of Visual Arts presents a vast array of disciplinary tracks with works by Chad Andrews\, Alan Bennett\, Jason Bronner\, Kenneth Cobb\, Meredith Grimsley\, Vince Hron\, Dave Kube\, Ron Lambert\, Michelle Lockwood\, Vance McCoy\, and John McKaig. Each of the faculty members has selected several artworks created within the past five years to exhibit at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center with examples in Drawing\, Ceramics\, Fabric Design\, Graphic Design\, Mixed Media\, Painting\, Photography\, Printmaking\, and Sculpture being presented. The variety of styles and disciplines is a delight to see all together in the Gmeiner’s open floor gallery setting and highlights the strength of the newly formed Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania Department of Visual Arts offerings and its talented faculty. \nThe faculty members at the Commonwealth’s three campuses strive to develop tomorrow’s artists while continuing to hone their own craft. Working in a wide range of media\, they explore themes of identity\, culture\, and place with the pieces in this exhibit. Visitors to the exhibit will be treated to cutting edge examples of artistic expression. Many of the faculty members will be at the opening reception\, if visitors would like to speak with them individually about their work. \nThe Gmeiner is open from 12-6PM Tuesdays through Sundays and is located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro behind the Green Free Library. Admission to the gallery is free. For further information contact Carrie at 570-724-1917 or director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org.

SUMMARY:Best Friends Girl
DESCRIPTION:The #1 Cars experience in the northeast! Best Friends Girl recreates the timeless hits of The Cars spanning a 35-year career\, with over 23 million albums sold and more than 22 songs on the Billboard Top 100. The Cars undoubtedly left their mark in popular culture with notable hits like “Best Friends Girl\,” “Shake It Up\,” “Magic\,” “Let’s Go\,” and\, of course\, “Moving in Stereo\,” which gained notoriety from its placement in the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Best Friends Girl is comprised of lifelong\, top-notch\, professional musicians whose goal is to keep the music of The Cars alive with every performance! \nThe Cars’ journey began with Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr collaborating on several projects in the early 70’s. Ric and Benjamin eventually completed the lineup with Greg Hawkes\, Elliot Easton\, and David Robinson in Boston 1976.  In the confusion left behind by the death of disco and punk angst\, they forged a new direction\, combining the synthesizer sound with classic rock and roll roots. It created a unique sound for the time\, and icon John Lennon became a fan\, stating\, “I think The Cars’ ‘Touch and Go’ is right out of the fifties’ Oh\, oh… ‘A lot of it is fifties stuff. But with the eighties styling.” \nTickets are $30\, and we will have table seating\, which is the standard for our BYOB shows. There are General Admissions risers in the back of the theatre and the opportunity to rent a table in the middle and front of the theatre. A small table is an additional $5 and seats 2-4 people. A large table is an additional $10 and seats 6-8 people. The only way to rent a table is to call our office at 570-724-6220. \nhttps://deanecenter.ticketleap.com/best-friends-girl/
