DESCRIPTION:Lumberjack Day & Pancake Breakfast at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum is an opportunity to shake off the winter blues with some black and red flannel and enjoy some lumberjack fun. This program offers indoor entertainment for the whole family with axe throwing\, lumberjack crafts\, and games. Celebrate the “birthday” of the biggest lumberjack of them all\, Paul Bunyan\, with some tall tales and eat like lumberjacks with pancakes and sausages cooked by museum personnel. \nLumberjack Day activities are included with regular admission to the museum while the Pancake Breakfast (which includes admission to the museum and Lumberjack Day activities) is $10 per adult and $6 per youth ages 4-11 years old.

SUMMARY:History Camp at the PA Lumber Museum
DESCRIPTION:The “hands-on” history camp for kids 10 and older offer an opportunity for youngsters to learn about the history of Pennsylvania’s forests and immerse themselves into the lifestyle of the 19th-century “woodhicks” – the loggers and lumberjacks who worked in the trade. \nOn day one\, campers will try activities like using a crosscut saw\, rolling a log\, peeling bark\, and cooking over a fire.  They’ll play games like horseshoes\, seed spitting\, and model log raft racing.  On the second day\, participants will demonstrate their new-found skills at the Galeton Rotary’s Cherry Springs State Park Woodsmen Show. \nThis camp offers an educational and fun way for students and youngsters to have fun and learn an appreciation for the work that built the state’s rich lumber heritage.

DESCRIPTION:The remains of lumber history are all around us. Join museum volunteers John & Jan Halter for a free guided hike of the Working Forest Interpretive Trail at Cherry Springs State Park. Along the easy\, one-mile trail\, learn about the area’s history as well as some of the management practices employed in a working forest to provide multiple uses for public\, industry\, and environmental needs.\nAfter the hike\, those interested can drive a few miles to Lyman Run State Park and join the Halters for a brief hike to the remains of a former birch still. Participants should meet at the information kiosk across the road from the Observation Field at Cherry Springs State Park on Route 44 (4639 Cherry Springs Road Coudersport\, PA 16915). Children are welcome.\nInterested in getting out to see what remains at other locations associated with Pennsylvania’s lumbering past?
