DESCRIPTION:Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries invites you and your best friend to show off! The 2nd annual Show fundraiser celebrates dogs of all breeds/mixes\, sizes\, ages and abilities. It’s scheduled for Saturday\, Sept. 21\, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Grand Canyon Veterinary Clinic’s grounds at 11765 Route 6\, Wellsboro (across from Weis).\n\n\n“We’re incredibly excited to bring back this fundraiser to benefit the lost\, abandoned and at-risk animals we assist through Second Chance\,” said Jim Howe\, Second Chance’s board president. “Last year was so much fun for both dogs and people.”\n\n\nThe Show Off is centered around a series of competitions for dogs and their owners\, with categories such as “Tiny Show-Offs\,” “Still-Got-It-Seniors\,” “Fetch-Crazed\,” and “Who You Calling Dog?” Four categories with three to five events each are held back-to-back throughout the day\, culminating with doggie fashion shows. Each event will be individually judged with prizes for the winner.\n\n\n\nRegistration is $20 before Sept. 1 or $25 after for a dog’s first event. Each additional event is $5\, up to four events total per dog. The first 50 entrants receive an event T-shirt and matching dog bandana\, both subject to availability. DESCRIPTION:Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries is adding a new element – and a lot more chocolate – to its annual upcoming chili tasting event. \nChili & Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate is Saturday\, Feb. 10\, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. during Wellsboro’s Winter Celebration. Several businesses in downtown Wellsboro will concoct chili and/or chowder that can be sampled with the purchase of a tasting passport for $10. At each location\, tasters can enter to win various chocolate prizes. When done tasting\, participants can vote for their top three favorite dishes using their passports\, which can then be dropped off at any of the tasting sites or passport purchase locations. \n“We’re happy to present a new twist on our chili tasting event\, which is now ‘Chili & Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate\,’” said Jim Howe\, president of Second Chance’s board and one of the organization’s founders. “We wanted to add chowders for our friends who aren’t crazy about chili\, but still want to support local animals in need and get chances to win chocolate. This event has grown every year thanks to support from the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce and its Winter Celebration\, as well as the fantastic local businesses that serve as tasting sites. DESCRIPTION:A golf tournament to benefit homeless and at-risk animals is Saturday\, Sept. 30\, at the River Valley Country Club\, Westfield. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The four-person scramble with two flights is $80 per golfer\, which includes a light breakfast and the chance to win a cash payout and on-course prizes. Lunch and dinner are also available. \nGolfers and non-golfers can enter to win a 50/50 raffle and lottery tree with $100 worth of scratch off tickets. Drawings will be around 1:30 p.m. You need not be present to win. \nRiver Valley Country Club is at 80 Bailey Burrows Ave.\, off Route 249 near the intersection of Route 49 outside Westfield. Register prior to Sept. 30 at the club\, the sanctuary or by calling 570-512-0901.
