If conditions allow\, we’ll take a look through telescopes at some of the key features of the spring sky. \nHear legends and myths surrounding several familiar and not so familiar constellations. Learn about park history\, current use\, and the importance of dark night skies. \nTelescope availability is subject to staff/volunteer availability\, weather conditions\, and crowd size limitations. \nRegistration encouraged\, but not required. Should we need to cancel or modify a program due to weather\, etc.\, we will email all registered participants. Optional registration will open 45 days before the program. \n—- \nLocation: Google Maps pin for parking here. Park programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the lot and follow the gravel walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Bench seating is limited\, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket. \nWhen to Arrive: All visitors should arrive before dark. You may still observe on your own at the park without attending a program. \nPets: No pets\, please. Trained service animals welcome. DESCRIPTION:Photograph the starry night sky with your DSLR camera & lenses you currently own. Curt Weinhold\, a PA Wilds Juried Artisan\, teaches you to photograph constellations & the Milky Way. Class is NOT for visitors wanting to take photos through a telescope. \nRegistration Required. Registration opens 45 days before class. Registration closes at 3 PM\, 2 days prior to class. Class size is limited to 10 seats\, with a waitlist availabile if class has filled. \nForeground material\, such as trees or buildings may also add to the composition. DESCRIPTION:Back in a time before television\, internet\, video games\, and graphic novels\, there was the splendor and drama of the night sky.  Gods followed their whims\, mortals struggled to please\, monsters were slain\, and heroes were born.  Explore the constellations and learn the Greek Mythology associated with them. \n\nJoin us at Cherry Spring State Park to take in the splendor of a gold-rated International Dark Skies Park. Those interested in experiencing a more personalized\, small-group telescope tour of the night sky can join North Star Outdoor Guides for a private telescope tour of the night sky.  Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits; includes a discussion of the importance of dark skies\, a laser-guided tour of various constellations\, and telescope viewing.  Objects which may be viewed include planets\, nebulae\, red giants\, globular clusters\, galaxies\, and binary star systems. \nGroup Size: max. capacity 16\, not including children age 5 and under \nBring: Chairs\, bug spray\, and a small red flashlight. (ONLY RED LIGHTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE VIEWING FIELD.) \nDress: Dress warmly for cooler than anticipated night temperatures.  The field is at higher elevation and exposed. \nRegistration Required – Registration will open 45 days prior to the program when possible and close at 3pm 2 days prior to the program (or when full). You may put your name on a waitlist if the program is full. \nFee: $25/person (includes a $3 non-refundable processing fee); Children (age 5 and under) Free \n*** Payment is required within 24 hrs of your registration\, or your registration will be removed.  Payment can be made by following the link provided in the email you will receive after registering *** \nThe program will be cancelled in the event of rain or overcast skies. \nWeather Policy: If weather or predicted overcast skies result in us having to cancel the program you will receive a refund minus the $3.00 non-refundable processing fee. SUMMARY:Private Dark Sky Telescope Tour: Gods in the Sky
DESCRIPTION:Back in a time before television\, internet\, video games\, and graphic novels\, there was the splendor and drama of the night sky.  Gods followed their whims\, mortals struggled to please\, monsters were slain\, and heroes were born.  Explore the constellations and learn the Greek Mythology associated with them. \n\nJoin us at Cherry Spring State Park to take in the splendor of a gold-rated International Dark Skies Park. Those interested in experiencing a more personalized\, small-group telescope tour of the night sky can join North Star Outdoor Guides for a private telescope tour of the night sky.  Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits; includes a discussion of the importance of dark skies\, a laser-guided tour of various constellations\, and telescope viewing.  Objects which may be viewed include planets\, nebulae\, red giants\, globular clusters\, galaxies\, and binary star systems. \nGroup Size: max. capacity 16\, not including children age 5 and under \nBring: Chairs\, bug spray\, and a small red flashlight. (ONLY RED LIGHTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE VIEWING FIELD.) \nDress: Dress warmly for cooler than anticipated night temperatures.  The field is at higher elevation and exposed. \nRegistration Required – Registration will open 45 days prior to the program when possible and close at 3pm 2 days prior to the program (or when full). You may put your name on a waitlist if the program is full. \nFee: $25/person (includes a $3 non-refundable processing fee); Children (age 5 and under) Free \n*** Payment is required within 24 hrs of your registration\, or your registration will be removed.  Payment can be made by following the link provided in the email you will receive after registering *** \nThe program will be cancelled in the event of rain or overcast skies. \nWeather Policy: If weather or predicted overcast skies result in us having to cancel the program you will receive a refund minus the $3.00 non-refundable processing fee. (You will receive email notification of any decision to cancel the program in its entirety by 3:30 pm the day before the event)  We will do our best to utilize weather forecasts and the Cherry Springs Clear Dark Skies Chart (http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/ChrSprPkPAkey.html) to pre-determine if a program will be possible.  However\, due to the fickle nature of weather our best-made efforts may be thwarted\, and the sky may be overcast during your scheduled tour.  In the event\, your guide is unable to show you at least 3 deep sky objects you will receive a 50% refund. If preferred\, you can opt to receive a coupon\, valued at the fee you paid\, to be used towards a future program (good for two years) in lieu of a partial refund. \nParticipant Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your reservation before 3pm\, two days prior to the event you will be refunded minus the $3.00/participant\, non-refundable processing fee.  No refunds are given for no-shows or cancellations by the participant after 3pm\, two days prior to the event. \n— \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of fun\, hands-on science – all about outer space! This program is especially designed for families with kids that can’t stay up as late\, but still want to look through a telescope and learn about the wonders of the night sky.  Come for one activity or stay for them all! \n— \n7 PM – 7:25 PM: Scale-model Walk Through our Solar System \n7:30 PM – 8 PM: Totally Telescopes –  Investigate how a telescope works\, and then look through a telescope at the Moon \n8:15 PM – 8:40 PM: Marvelous Moon – Listen to folktales about the moon\, and take one final telescope look at our neighbor in the sky \n8:45 PM – 9:15 PM: What’s Out Tonight? – Take a short\, staff-led tour of the stars and planets \nTelescopes may be available after the program.
