SUMMARY:Critter Call
DESCRIPTION:This night time program offers a chance to see nocturnal wildlife in a unique way. After a brief orientation we will travel to spots in and around the park to “call in” a gray fox using night lights and an electronic game call. Other species possibly encountered will be deer\, raccoons\, owls\, coyotes\, and more. The program involves hiking into the woods discreetly and calling from several locations. \nParticipants should be prepared to drive short distances\, wear dark colored and scent free clothing\, and remain quiet. No flashlights are allowed. Program is not suitable for young children or those with difficulty walking at night in a woodland setting. Strict limit to 12 persons ages 10 and above. \nPreregistration is required; to register call 570-724-4246 or stop in the park office. \nMeet at the Nature Center at 8:30pm.

DESCRIPTION:The popularity of the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association’s HERYN (Helping Engage our River’s Youth with Nature) kayaking and fishing program days and recent development of a Northern Tier Regional Director position has led to a new Northern Tier HERYN program opportunity to be held July 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each day will offer the same program to 20 different participants divided into two 10-person groups each day. \nThe program will take place at the Sugarbush Pavilion of the Hills Creek State Park near Wellsboro.  The program will contain intro to kayaking and fishing instruction as well as a Plants Hike and Stream Study. \nParticipants should be between the ages of 10 and 15 and will be learning the fundamentals of kayaking and fishing\, as well as gaining a sense of environmental stewardship through watershed conservation. \nThe program is offered free to participants and all equipment is provided. Participants are required to pack their own lunch\, bring a refillable water bottle\, sunscreen and an extra change of clothing as well as appropriate footwear for watersports (ideally hard-soled water shoes). \nRegistration is capped at 20 participants per day and will be filled in a first-registered\, first-secured order using the following form. SUMMARY:Early Summer Night Sky Wonders
DESCRIPTION:Wilds Astronomy Club (PaWildsAstro.org) for an evening observing session in Hills Creek State Park. Observing will start at about 9:30 with some colorful stars and double stars. Once completely dark\, the telescopes will move to objects highlighting the midsummer sky\, including clusters and nebulas. In the event of clouds\, a demonstration of night vision equipment will be substituted. This event will not be held if raining. \nIf camping\, we recommend walking to the program. If you need to drive\, please arrive early and park in the field past the nature center. A small flashlight will be helpful if you can bring one (red is even better).

SUMMARY:FAMILY FISHING TOURNAMENT
DESCRIPTION:A family tradition. Medallions awarded in the following categories: largest perch\, largest bluegill\, largest bass\, largest crappie\, largest stringer of game fish by weight (for 1 angler’s legal limit of gamefish for the day).  A 1 oz. bonus for game fish that are caught and released.  All fish must be caught by legal means.  This is a no cull contest (no replacing a smaller fish with a heavier fish on the stringer).  In the event of a tie\, the earliest-weighed fish will win.  Weigh-in at the beach area near lake shore from 12 – 1 PM and from 7 – 8 PM with awards immediately following the final weigh-in.

The Maple Open House will be held in conjunction with the Potter/Tioga Maple Producers 20th Annual Maple Weekend. Taste our finished product\, and find out how you can ‘tap’ into the resource in your own backyard. Arrive anytime between 10am and 3pm. Plan to enjoy about 45-minutes with us in order to experience what each station has to offer. You will learn how to identify maple trees\, how to tap trees and collect sap\, the history of maple syrup making\, and how the finished product is made. This event is free. DESCRIPTION:Start out on the right foot in 2024 with a short hike\, exploring nature in winter at Hills Creek. This slow-paced\, family-oriented hike will be less than 1.5 miles in length. If conditions warrant\, limited snowshoes will be available or you are encouraged to bring your own. \nAlso\, back this year\, is the 5K Fun Run around the lake. It’s a no frills no cost run where you record your own time and have some fun challenging your friends to some healthy competition or just challenge yourself to healthy activity. \nCome early or stay late – the sledding hill is nearby or you can explore more trails or the plowed campground roads throughout the park.
