Here Comes the Sun – Safe Solar Viewing

May 11 at 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Get to the park before sunset, and take a safe look at the sun!

Join the PA Wilds Astronomy Club to safely view the sun with special telescopes. As we approach the peak of the 11-year solar cycle, the sun should have visible sunspots and prominences visible. Drop in and check it out!

In the event of inclement weather, the solar program will be cancelled.

If the sun cooperates, we may extend the duration of the program.

Location: Google Maps pin for parking here. Park programs occur on the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Park in the lot and follow the gravel walkway next to the restrooms to the seating area. Bench seating is limited, you may want to bring a chair and/or blanket.

When to Arrive: This is a drop-in program, stay for the whole hour-and-a-half or just stop in for a few minutes.

Pets: No pets, please. Trained service animals welcome. Large crowds and sensitive equipment can create do not create a pet-friendly environment. We ask that park visitors leave their pets at home.

Weather:  All programs will be cancelled in the event of thunder or downpours. Check the Stargazing Forecast or Clear Sky Chart  for forecasts of viewing conditions.

Questions? If you have questions email  or call the park office at 814-435-1037.
