Lyman Run State Park is hosting Historic Skills Day,  a free, all-day event Saturday, September 26, 2026! From 10 AM – 2 PM try your hand at old-fashioned historic skills.  Press cider, try out a cross-cut saw, make butter, watch a local artist spinning wool, & much more.

In the late 1800s, the region’s lumber industry was booming and lumber camps were filled with workers known as woodhicks. They relied on this centuries-old tool for its traditional purpose: to cut through logs. Here in Pennsylvania, woodhicks found a new use for the crosscut saw and were the first to use it for felling trees.
